Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Well.........it was interesting.
So, first time at any McCormick course, the temp was in the 70’s but it was windy.
First I’ll say that I enjoyed the course layout, some challenging holes, strategy was involved, the wind added to it.
I found the fairways and greens to be in very condition, the bunkers were playing very firm.
That said it was weird. The lady who checked me in was not friendly, the cart/starting/range people were absent and not very helpful. Being a first time player, every other course I’ve been too has tried to assist me with direction, as to where things are, but not here.
At my tee time I found the first tee box, waited, no one else showed up, so off I went. By the 6th hole I had caught up to a group of five, I was in no rush and started to hit two balls. Then a twosome caught up to me and I joined them. We passed the fivesome at the tenth tee and off we went. Total round took us just over three hours, we never saw another golfer on the back nine. Good conditions and layout, questionable staffing, the Marshall was very friendly though.
Two Course Option
The availability of two courses is always a plus. We played two days and experienced two different courses.
The friendly staff always adds to the positive experience. We didn’t explore the amenities, however, a peek into the restaurant prompted us to return with time for a meal there. We will return for another fun day on their courses.
Somehow expensive
The layout is fine, not that challenging. Expensive for the conditions of the course, not well signaled and staff seems to be bored and going thru the motions.
Rough???
Absolutely no rough or even any sort of grsss around the greens and fairways. Mostly hardpan. Course could be ok if they work on that but it makes it look so bad without it.
5 some in front of us slowed play down
Fine not memorable
Municipal-type course. Fairways were in great shape -lush and green. Off the fairways were sometimes sparse. Very playable and generous course. Greens were fine. Lots of ball marks but they were healed and didn’t really affect the putts. We played behind a group that must have been playing for $1,000,000 given the time spent reading greens after every missed putt and 150 yard drives. As we went down the 11th and 12th fairway there was no one on the next three holes yet the course ranger just smiled and waved rather then encouraging the group to catch up. Luckily I was paired up with a great twosome that I could talk to for five or more minutes each shot waiting for the group. 12 handicap.
Great round of golf with friends!
McCormick Pine has always been a good choice for a nice, challenging round of golf on a park style golf course. IT was a rare afternoon round, but the pace of play was surprisingly good. It also helped that it was a gorgeous day!
Value Play
For this time of year, when could some end north of $300 a round to play Scottsdale golf, this round was less than 100 bucks, greens and bunkers well maintained and pro shop/course staff with excellent customer service.
Good course
This is a good course for the money. Not the same caliber of some courses but good for a nice round of golf. Rough was dried out. Greens were nice but firm. Fairways are very good.
Great day for golf
Enjoyed my first round at McCormick Ranch - Pines course. Course was in good condition. Well laid out with trees, water, sand, etc. Will come back to play the Palms course.
AMBIVALENT STAFF
Staff was not very helpful in providing initial bag drop service to carts and acted like they really did not want to be there. Hole #9 was very difficult to play as the fairway was littered with astray balls from the driving range. Certainly someone could have cleaned up this fairway.
Slow play
A nice parkland-type course with enough water to keep things interesting. On the day we played the pace was bad...5-plus hours. The course isn’t that hard for the pace to be so slow.
