Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Unbelievably bad conditions
Don't want to spend too much time on this bashing the course, but with the exception of the greens it was almost unplayable. In my opinion this course should not even be open. Fairways were not even Fairways it was more dirt than there was grass. I was here on vacation and hoping for better.
Great Overall Course
First course I played since moving to Arizona and I was happily surprised with this course!
Front 9 is rough
The ‘new’ pine is front 9 of ‘old’ pine and palm. The front 9 were in rough conditions - on the 3 rd hole I had better lie in the rough then my friend had in the fairway. Back 9 was in good shape.
Bad experience
With the amount of great golf in this area, this place is an absolute miss.
I booked an 8:30am Friday round as a single and got thrown into a 9-person bachelor party—most of whom clearly didn’t golf. I was stuck in the last twosome behind two foursomes that got louder, slower, and more out of control with every hole. The course backed up completely, and there wasn’t a ranger anywhere to manage it.
By the time we reached the 9th hole on Pine (our 18th after being rerouted), the entire group decided to play the hole together as a 10-some. That’s not a slight delay—that’s a complete breakdown of course management.
I tried to hang back and finish with the annoyed twosome behind us, but we all walked off when balls started flying everywhere. At that point, it wasn’t just slow—it was insulting.
There’s too much good golf in Scottsdale to deal with this level of chaos. At $180, this isn’t just disappointing—it’s a joke. Stay away.
Nice Round
Greens and sandtraps in great shape. Fairways not lush for this time of year.
My opinion
The fairways and greens are slightly damaged, however the environment is excellent.
Courses under repair
Played front nine of pine then front nine of palm.while Courses under repair. Temps too hot for driving range practice balls. Golf shop always has a super great selection of clothes.
Front 9s only
Playing the front 9s only was not good, they put a rider in the cart with me that was a total stranger! Not good!!
Great pace, good value, good shape
I was pleasantly surprised playing this course again after a few years away. Even with a crowded course of foursomes, we completed our round in just about 4:15; a friendly marshal kept things moving. Good course conditions for the end of winter, good sand in the traps, and the greens rolled fair at a reasonable slope. A good time was had by all, and I will be back. I’m not sure why they had us play the front nine on both courses (others played the back nines, so they were all in play,) but that meant I had to record the round as two 9-hole rounds. Not a big deal, just curious.
Resort Course With Lots of Play
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The starters and rangers are retired guys looking for free golf and really did not do much to maintain the pace of play. I fould the greens to be fairly quick. The holes are fairly close to each other so stay alert. I just missed getting hit without warning.
Due to the volume of play, the conditions reflected it. I did book through GolfNow which made it a good bang for the buck.
Lots of Water
Can't think of many courses with more water coming into play. Greens were perfect, but don't seem to break as much as you might think!
Course Overrated
I purchased this golf round at a significant discount. Based on the condition of the fairways, greens, and sand traps, I was lucky to get the discount. The course is way overrated to pay the usual fee of $150. I would spend my money elsewhere before playing this course again.
