Starfire Golf Club - The King Course

The greens were in good shape but the fairways are next to terrible., even were there was grass it was so short you might as well have been hitting off dirt. It took us a little over 5 hours for 18 holes they have no one managing the course. Won’t go back and would never recommend it, especially for what they charge for a round of golf..

Too many young people playing who don't know golf etiquette & pace of play was awful. Took 4.75 hours to play 18 holes. Tee time was 2:45 & we finished at 7:10 in the dark. Garbage cans on entire course were overflowing with booze bottles and cans Greens were decent, but fairways were dirt on lots of holes. Most tee boxes were like concrete.

The golf carts are new, but they lack a windshield. I have only seen lower grade golf courses provide golf carts without windshields. The more modern, upbeat courses not only have carts with windshields, but they also have GPS.. Your tee time charges are not inexpensive, they rate right up there, yet the golf carts meet quite low standards.

The fairways need some grass and watering. Greens were in good shape. Pace of play was very slow waited nearly every shot and at times there was three groups on a tee box. No Marshall on the course that we saw..I'd wait a month or so to go back. Construction of new layout was evident as they are making progress but didn't really affect the King course.

Pace of play was good. Course in nice condition for the money. They are doing a lot of work on the course since the change of ownership.

The golf carts are new, but they do not have windshields...very strange. Seems like a strange place to save money. Also, there is no GPS on the new carts. Again, kind of a strange money saving stand. More and more golf courses have GPS on their carts...even the less expensive courses in Sun City.

For last several years this course has been known as Starfire Golf Club but it has now returned to its roots as The Scottsdale Country Club. Many improvements in progress and the highly re-vamped driving range is set to open on April 17, 2026. Look forward to completion of these updates!

As for the course itself, I feel it is suffering from lack of attention due to emphasis on other improvements. Many turf areas need attention and the bunkers are very crusty. Greens pretty good though.

What used to be a reliably solid course in a great part of Scottsdale has seemingly fallen off, with obvious staffing cuts and poor course maintenance. We don’t see one ranger the entire round, but thankfully our pace was okay with a single cart in front of us. I can’t imagine how crazy it would get on a weekend with way more traffic. The real issue, however, is the poor course maintenance. The majority of the fairways need water, with the majority of our tee shots ending up in what we thought was a great spot, only to find out ball in the middle of the fairway in a patch of hard dirt and no grass. The tee boxes are also beat up and uneven, making many holes (especially the shorter par 3s) difficult to get a good shot on. Overall, for the price, there are tons of better options in Scottsdale. Until they invest in the course, I’m skipping it.

This is not as plush as some of the high $$$ courses but it didn’t cost as mych. Excellent value, friendly staff, great pace of play and we will be back.

The pins do not have laser reflectors on them and the flags are aren’t color coded. . Since there is no GPS on the carts they should at least have the course layout on the score card or at the tee boxes. How would a new player know what to do on hole #16, a sharp dog leg left with water in front of the green. Please make a little effort for especially for new players.

Price is good, however, the course conditions have deteriorated.

Considering the number of players who are out on a daily basis, this course is in great shape. A little rough in some areas which does not get enough water, other than that all is good. The greens as well are true.

Looks like a lot of nice things are happening at the driving range, you have to go and see.

The 4 players in front of us were very, very slow. We went around them, skipping the 4th hole, and discovered there were 2 holes open. I am so glad we took the chance and went around the slow pokes. It would be great to have a ranger to prevent this from happening.
