The deserts of Arizona are the last place you'd expect to find an ode to the British Open but the Monument course at Troon North is a love song to the golf courses on the other side of the Atlantic, from the ability to play bump-and-run shots into greens into the names of some of the holes.

A round of golf on the Monument Course at the Troon North Golf Club kicks off on a par-4 hole that measures 444 yards from the Black tees. Things get long on the third hole, a par 5 that plays to 564 yards from the Black tee and is one of four holes that come in at over 500 yards from the Black tees.

The 18th hole on the Monument Course at the Troon North Golf Club will be a relative breeze, then, a par 4 that measures just 370 yards from the Black tees.

Challenging golf

Very challenging course, fairways were soft early due to sprinklers. Greens were fast enough. Not as fast as Quintero or whisper rock, but I'd say they were the next "gear" down. Certainly faster than 75% of what I've played out here. Service carts and club staff friendly. Pace was about 4 hours. The facility looks a little "tired" but I wasn't there for a wedding reception, so who cares!! Play it, you'll like it.

Stunning

On vacation from England and left this course till last having already played 6 other very good courses in the Phoenix area. I have to say this was the best course we played and is now in my all time top 5, and considering I've played many of the big courses in England, Scotland, Spain and Portugal this tells you just how good it was. The pace was a bit slow but they did have a corporate event on however the views on the course were so good we were in no rush to finish. Fabulous course in great condition and would recommend it to any golfer who appreciates great courses.

Fantastic course...but gruelingly slow

Played yesterday. THe course is magnificent - challenging enough, but very fair. Good for many different skill levels. Started around 3 pm and the website boasts 4.24 hour round so I was hopeful we would complete our round. Unfortunately, by dusk at 7:30 we still had 3 holes to play. Had we finished it would have been a 5+ hour round. I REALLY loved the course. Just wish play moved a bit quicker, especially if the greens fees are not adjusted for the inability to complete the round. Course marshalls should do a better job of keeping up the pace of play.

wonderful place

the facility and design are fabulous. staff was superb. layout and views are great. wonderful eperience. my only critiism is that he greens were very slow and the surfaces were not of the quality i remember fom past visits. it was mid april and maybe they had just one some maintenance....but at that pricepoint i certainly expected better greens. I had inner there and the food and serice were great

Amazing Course

The course was immaculate. You can't beat the landscape, the scenery and the location. Honestly the best, most picturesque course I have ever played.
The group ahead of us was pretty slow moving, which is why the pace rating is low, and we didn't stay for food or beverages, so I wasn't sure about that rating either. But this place deserves 5 stars, for sure. Gorgeous!

Keep it in the fairway

Troon North Pinnacle is a beautiful and very difficult course. Keep your driver in the bag for most holes and make sure you hit it in the fairway. Don't challenge the course or it will bite you more than the snakes. (we didn't see snakes but you get it). It's about the second shot. Being 100-150 out is ideal. Greens aren't too difficult if you keep it close. The sand was much nicer than other desert courses. I don't think I would pay 200 again but it was a good one and done experience.

Beautiful course.

The course was meticulously maintained in every aspect. The greens were a bit slower than I expected but overall it was a fantastic round. We were paired with a very slow golfer but still finished in four hours. The marshall griped at us multiple times and threatened to make us skip a hole. I understand this except for the fact that we left the group behind us by atleast two holes. The staff was excellent except for the grumpy marshall.

Troon North Monument

For $200 a round the Fairways and views were spectacular, however, the greens were not in great shape, a lot of divot holes and the ball bounced across the green when putting

it was a great course, had a friend who had a Troon pass, so we plaid 140 for the round. The greens where a little rough, but was fun.

Great Course-

While pricey in full season ($250) the course never fails to impress with great conditions and beautiful views. A fair lay-out to be sure.
Probably better values to be had in Scottsdale during high season.
Front desk staff was rather rude dealing with us on the subject of one member of our foursome not joining us- They wanted to charge us the full greens fees for him and we had to battle with them.

Greens were terrible

I loved the course design and I would recommend it however, the greens were so slow and absolutely covered in unrepaired ball barks that it took away from the enjoyment. Just a reminder to each group to repair their marks would help. They really were a disaster for what they charge.

Troon visit ruined ,

Four Canadian boys in Scottsdale playing Troon for the first time.... we're probably having the highlight round of their seven day golf vacation..... perfect golf weather, fantastic scenery, splendid golf layout, nicely manicured course, challenging greens....... all ruined by a course marshall, who couldn't find the courtesy to first ask how we were enjoying our first round at Troon....... but instead stopped his cart, and told us we were 1 hole behind, and we need to try to catch up on the next par 5. The foursome following us, never once had to wait...... from the twelfth hole onwards, the four of us were "choked", and we are in agreement that we are in no rush to return. Troon..... a nice round spoiled !

Absolutely beautiful.

An awesome experience, played Monument.Just a couple minor issues, bags were delayed in getting to us after we dropped them off at the bag drop. All other aspects of customer service was excellent. Greens were a little sketchy due to ball marks, not sure if people jut don't know how to repair their ball marks or what but there were a ton out there, not something you'd expect with Troon North. Pace of play was awesome, teed off at 1030 and could have finished in three hours but had to slow it down in order soak it in. Never saw a group behind us and only had to wait once for just a couple minutes on a short reachable par 4 on the back side.

Save your money!

Truly disappointing experience. I was on a 5 day golf trip and save what I thought was the best to last based on price and other reviews. It was a big let down. Pro shop was alright but not overly welcoming. Playing it for the first time we did not have a clue where to go. They directed us in the general area. They did not tell us about the course or any details. (food, no GPS, etc.)
Driving range had very little grass in the area that was being used. They did not move their golf stands up. No GPS on carts. Starter directed us to the 1st tees at Monument from about 10 yards away. He did not get out of his cart. We had trouble figuring out what tees to go off. No guidance. Did not have much to guide for the proper way to play the hole. Left or right of rocks! Followed a slow 2 - twosomes all the way around. Heard from cart girl that it was a 4 that split up. Played at 11 am and there was still 2 mowers on the fairways. Had to wait on one hole. We did not know that there was no snack shop after 9 holes. Greens and fairways were nice but average compared to the other course we played on this trip.
I suggest you golf Gold Canyon Dinosaur for a way better experience.
