Scottsdale Country Club - The Championship Course

Considering the number of players who are out on a daily basis, this course is in great shape. A little rough in some areas which does not get enough water, other than that all is good. The greens as well are true.

Looks like a lot of nice things are happening at the driving range, you have to go and see.

The 4 players in front of us were very, very slow. We went around them, skipping the 4th hole, and discovered there were 2 holes open. I am so glad we took the chance and went around the slow pokes. It would be great to have a ranger to prevent this from happening.

Golf course is OK but on the edge of being a very nice golf course. There was no sand in the cart to repair divots and it showed on the course. Unrepaired divots littered the, otherwise good, fairways. People get lazy and don’t repair their ball marks, but I think they’d be more so inclined if the carts were supplied with sand to repair divots.

Pace of play went well until the back nine. 4 separate groups of two were waiting on tee box 15. We joined our group with another to help with the pace.

I understand the courses in transition to “Scottsdale country club”, just a few small things would make a big difference in making this a really nice place to play.

All in all, I had a great day the staff was excellent. I will be back

The bad: Course amenities a bit lacking. No marshal, 3 groups backed up at hole #1 at our tee time. Course has no water refill stations, carts had sand bottles but were completely empty, restaurant closed at 3pm so only pre packaged food available at the turn. Bag drop off is 100% self loading and unloading. Golf carts do not have GPS or any course information, had to run down a scorecard since the cart did not have one. Driving range so chewed up you are literally hitting off dirt. They seem understaffed and the service reflects it.

The good: For the most part, course was it good shape. Greens were true and course layout has some challenging water hazards.

If you’re looking for country club level of service, this is not the place. If you just want to play a fun round and don’t mind fending for yourself, not a bad course to play at all.

The course was in excellent shape. Pace of play was good but no rangers. The course is good for an average player. Big hitters would find the course too short even from the back tees.

First and last time here. No towels. No markers. No tees. No cooler on cart. No water bottles. No water on course. No starter. Thankfully they had a cart girl. It was 103 degree weather, no wind, no clouds. We had really rude and grumpy men who apparently were supposed to be in our foursome. They were late and missed their tee time. So they took it out on the foursome behind us who wouldn’t let them butt in. Then they mistook us for other golfers and butted in front of us. We were waiting every hole for the group in front of us. We were not slow. We did not order food at turn. We complained to three employees about the situation and eventually after suggesting they give us a free drink they did. They didn’t really care who those guys were. Despite us taking their picture and cart and indicating they were supposed to be in our group. Glad they weren’t! Course was confusing to navigate. No signs either

Two Guys behind us went around us and told the Lady two-some in front of us, "you are the reason it is slow...and you can get off the tee box because we are playing in front of you." And, they did... they took over the Tee Bax and hit in front of the two women. These are the same two guys that showed up 10 minutes late for their tee time and said, we will go in front of you. Two in our foursome had already hit and we said you can play behind us you were late for your Tee Time," We continued to play.

It was another great day of golfing in paradise. I have been coming to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for over 20 years. I enjoy playing Starfire each time I visit. The staff is friendly and I am able to obtain a tee time with Golf Now. The rates I receive are very good for the month of March. If ever in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area I do recommend to give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

94 degrees and cart girl came by one time on front nine. No times on back 9.

Pace of play.... slowed to 17th hole had 5 groups waiting between 17 and 18. Really need a Marshal.

Golf carts not very clean !!! No score cards placed on them

I had read some recent reviews of the slow play at Starfire and braced myself. We teed off just before 1:00 pm on a Tuesday and we completed 18 holes at 4:25 so 3.5 hours. I was paired with another gentleman of similar handicap and while we had to wait to tee off on 3 or 4 holes on the last 6 holes, I was extremely happy on the pace of play. The course was in decent shape (tee boxes still hard), beverage cart, greeter, and starter were very friendly and welcoming.

I play Starfire once per year on our annual visits to Scottsdale but I’ll be back. Quality course with quality personnel.
