Starfire golf course
Fairways were in horrible condition. There’s more dirt than grass.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the feedback. As you witnessed we are currently in the process of a very tough summer transition when the winter grasses recede from the heat and the summer Bermuda grass tries its best to grow in.
We genuinely value your patronage and patience as we work through the summer to improve Starfire's conditions.

Summer Blues
Only writing this because I couldn't find something before we booked.
The staff was fine, dude at the carts "Dave" was pretty cool and friendly so not sure about the previous staff reviews.
The course was a baren wasteland. It's 110+ everyday so some patchiness and rough areas are to be expected. To write something good about the course would be where there was grass it was green but not much grass to write about!
The course layout is nice, if the grass comes back I'd book again in the spring.
The cart girl was out early and we did see her a couple times as well.
Thank you for playing Starfire and taking the time to give us your review. Your comments are much appreciated and they are what motivates us to get better. I will share them with our team. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The greens were slow, but in good condition. The rest of the course? Pretty dry and missing a lot of grass in a lot of places. Paid $29, and it’s not worth it right now.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for taking the time to leave a review. You are correct the hottest June on record for Arizona has taken its toll on our little course.
Thank you for your patience as we work hard to get the summer bermuda established and a little extra help from the monsoons will help the bermuda too.
We hope to see you in August and September before overseeding starts.
Travis Fish, Director of Golf
Fairways r in poor condition! Greens aerated so not good either.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the feedback. The summer turf transition has been rugged this year for sure. We appreciate your patronage and patience as we work through the summer to keep moving Starfire conditions forward.

Just don’t.
Played the mulligan a handful of times with my 6 year old son, played the king today thinking YOC discount would apply but it doesn’t apply til 11am and we had a 10 tee time. They still gave him a discount, but $50 for the two of us was still WAY priced and if you pay more than $20 a person you’re seriously throwing money away. The bad reviews are true, absolutely no grass in the fairways, mud pits everywhere. Better off hitting it in the rough to actually find some grass. Pace of play was a little tough. You’re better off going to top golf. I get that’s it’s in the heart of Scottsdale but there are plenty others for same price if not cheaper. Greens were MISERABLY slow. You had to hammer 10 foot putts it was really weird. Not even aerated but very very slow
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not up to par, but your feedback is what motivates us to get better.

Nuts
The pace of play was, well shall I say, pushed to extreme. The marshal was nagging us to play faster from the second tee through the nineth. One in our foursome was not an accomplished golf but the whole foursome in back of us were.
Nutgrass has taken over 90% of the course, except the greens.
This use to be an exception place to play but doubt I will play her again in the summer.
Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club.
We take speed of play seriously and make sure our course marshals and starters are continually working with our golfers on their pace. It looks as though we missed an opportunity, and we will continue to improve.
We hope to have you back for the Starfire experience again soon.

Course conditions
Course conditions were terrible. Hit your ball in the middle of the fairway and you’re playing in dirt. The only good thing I can say was the greens were in pretty good condition but the rest the course boxes and fairways were terrible not worth $70-$80 a person.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the valuable feedback. We are currently in the process of summer transition when the winter grasses recede from the heat and the summer Bermuda grass tries its best to grow in. This turf transition is not a smooth process and our maintenance crews are working hard to improve the conditions. We thank you for your patience and review and we hope to see you back later in the summer when our turf has filled in better or even after overseed when we have excellent turf coverage.

No grass in the fairways
Literally no grass in the fairways, bunkers with standing water.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the valuable feedback. We are currently in the process of summer transition when the winter grasses recede from the heat and the summer Bermuda grass tries its best to grow in. This turf transition is not a smooth process and newer courses seem to transition better than Scottsdale’s older courses like Starfire that has been around since 1953. We thank you for your patience and review and we hope to see you back later in the summer when our turf has filled in better or even after overseed when we have excellent turf coverage.

Water
The course is over watered. Many areas were like a swamp. Greens were in good condition. Pass of play was great.
Thank you for the valuable review. Our maintenance crews are working hard this hot summer to keep conditions playable. We will use your feedback to continue to improve.

Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the 5-star review! We are excited to have you back out for another round soon!

Worst cared for course I’ve played in Arizona
Wow, this course was a no fairway grass, mudbowl. I booked through the app for 2 people. Decided to add a 3rd, called into the pro shop to add them. Asked how course was and got a “great”. Driving up I could see otherwise. We spent the entire round moving every single shot around trying to find a patch of grass to hit from otherwise it was our mud. Sand traps filled with water. I get it sometimes a course needs to be overwatered. Cool, let me know this. Also, a heads up that the fairways don’t actually have grass would have been nice.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for the valuable feedback. Our apologies for the staff member that indicated our summer turf transition is great. We missed an opportunity to set realistic expectations.

Typical summer conditions
Played on July 3. King course is finished with aeration & sanding of greens. Greens were fine with a pretty true roll. Fairways and tee boxes had various bare spots. It's usually the case with less watering and summer extreme heat. For $25 it was a fair tradeoff and reason for 4 star rating. The staff is great. A worker came around to provide golfers with water--a nice touch. It was a quick round starting early afternoon on a very hot day.
Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club!
Thank you for your patience as we work through the summer temperatures to keep the course healthy.
We’re excited you enjoyed your experience at Starfire Golf Club. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Starfire dissappointment
Arrived at pro shop to find out Front 9 on King closed. started on Par-3 course called Mulligan. tee boxes hardly any green grass, fairways no grass mostly mud and sparce grass here in there. greens rolled like 7 or 8 on stimp.
Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for your feedback. June and July are the months we perform aerification on our greens. We have it posted online and our staff is trained to notify all callers of the course rotation. The summer heat definitely takes its toll on the turf in June and July. We thank you for your patience as we work to make Starfire even better!
