poor fairway condition
The front nine is struggling, lots of missing grass and weed patches everywhere. You can hit a good drive and still be hitting off dirt or in a patchy area where your lie is bad. Definitely disappointing.
Pretty good value
The course was in pretty good shape given middle of summer and a storm the night before. Not special, not bad. T times are too close to each other. 5 hr round...

Mixed
The tee boxes and greens were excellent.
The fairways were not good. We had to roll the ball quite a bit to get off the dirt patches.
Staff was excellent. Good people.
Beware booking for a group via GolfNow - I booked 4 tee times for this course and had to eat over $40 in fees.

Fantastic condition for mid August pre seed
I was expecting brown grass due to the time of year and the fact that they are seeding in a few weeks. Boy was it the opposite. Fantastic conditions for late summer!

Excellent Value For A Very Good Course
This links style course and layout is one of my favorites. Greens rolled well and tee boxes were level. Fairways need some water since some bare spots and weeds are evident on 5 of the holes. Cart service was considerate and never got in the way of play. Highly recommend if you have out-of-town quests or if you just want to play an Arnold Palmer-designed course.

Not good
The course was in horrible shape. I have seen better grass on goat pastures than what Starfire has. That still want to charge a premium summer rate, but beware, you won’t be playing a premium course. Marshalls were not very useful either.

Just ok
Course condition was fair at best. Fairways in rough shape.Course layout odd as it meanders through streets and homes. Just average at best. Way overpriced in Winter. I live 5 minutes away but wouldn’t travel any distance to play here otherwise.

Horrible
This course is in horrible condition. I have seen goat pastures that have better grass. Tee boxes were just as bad as the fairways. Pace of play was awful. Marshall kept blaming groups that were 4-5 holes ahead of us, but the group ahead of us should learn some common courtesy. You don’t need 12 practice swings only to chunk it and for putting you don’t need 8 practice strokes and then back off the putt to look at it again and then putt.

First visit in over 1 year.
Because I previously enjoyed playing at Starfire before getting locked in to a summer pass at a nearby course, I took a friend with me this time. Unfortunately ,the course conditions were not as good as I remembered -especially around the tee boxes. Hope course management pays more attention to this. I truly enjoy the friendliness of the staff, the carts, and the course layout. I hope to get back there with more friends soon.

Decent greens, but terrible fairways
The course layout is good with nice views. The staff is nice, too. Tees and greens are in pretty good shape considering the summer in Phoenix. The fairways are brutal. Hitting from the fairway feels like you’re hitting off the cart path. It’s very challenging to hit irons from the hard, patchy fairways.

We are currently in the process of summer transition when the winter grasses recede from the heat and the summer Bermuda grass tries its best to grow in. This turf transition is not a smooth process and newer courses seem to transition better than Scottsdale’s older courses like Starfire that has been around since 1953. We thank you for your patience and review and we hope to see you back later in the summer when our turf has filled in better or even after overseed when we have excellent turf coverage.

Pace of play....
Jesus Christ, three of us just sitting on the tee box on our phones in a six-cart pile-up behind a twosome. We love Starfire, but this is the second time in a row the pace has been abysmal, especially given the 113F heat... Would not recommend for this reason alone unfortunately!
