Downhill fast
Starfire has really gone downhill in the past month. Fairways are bare and brown. Maintenance guys just drive around acting busy but not doing anything. Greens were good and Starter was nice. Tall outside service guy with the right ear earring was more interested in gabbing with a friend than cleaning my clubs and earning a $5 tip when done. That's poor customer service. Still saw no bev cart girl after 8 am and before 10 am.
Avoid
Course in poor condition, even in the fairway you have to move your ball to find a patch of grass. Several dirt tee boxes. Marshall not controlling pace of play.

A message from the Owners:
Thank you for the well thought out review.
What you experienced is by design, and part of a $9m course renovation plan designed to completely transform Starfire for its 75th anniversary in December 2028. If you'd like to learn more about that $9m renovation, please see HERE.
When we bought Starfire in September 2024 we found the course didn't meet our quality standards. There are many, many steps to bringing the course back to where we need it to be, but the first is/was the elimination of all weeds, which must be done from April to September. That process leaves brown, bare spots where weeds once were while the bermuda base takes its time to grow back in. That is what you experienced.
Bermuda that's been choked out by rye grass and weeds for many years doesn't all come back in one season. So you can expect that next summer the course will look a lot better than this summer, but still won't be to our standard. And that we'll be at it again. Please consider that before you play here in the summer.
You will find that when we come out of overseed in mid-October Starfire will be a spectacular golf course. So feel free to come back and play then. But whenever you're here, know that what you see is the result of our effort to make the course as good as we can today while simultaneously making it better for tomorrow. Our job is to do that. Your job is to play golf. We wish you the best wherever you choose to do that.
Sincerely,
Swing First Golf owners and the Starfire Team
Slow round due to extremely slow play by group in front of us
Even with the course Marshall asking them to pick up pace they didn't which made it a very slow round of golf. There was several holes they could have called us up but didn't but I guess that's what you get on a resort course.

Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club.
We take speed of play seriously and make sure our course marshals and starters are continually working with our golfers on their pace. It looks as though we missed an opportunity, and we will continue to improve.
We hope to have you back for the Starfire experience again soon.

We were stuck behind a very slow foursome
We asked for assistance with moving the group ahead of us along as they were constantly a hole or two behind the group in front of them. The ranger said he asked them to pick up the pace but they didn't. It took us 5+ hours to play a course that normally would take around 4 hours.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy so much of your experience was exceptional.
However, we're sorry to see the pace of play was not up to your expectation. We take speed of play seriously and make sure our course marshals and starters are continually working with our golfers on their pace.
We hope to have you back for the Starfire experience again soon.

Walk in the country on a breezy summer day
Greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways were not in good shape. Pace of play on the back 9 was great. Course was fairly challenging on water holes. I had fun. People I played with were nice.

Thank you for the great feedback. We are so happy you enjoyed the Starfire experience. Our golf course is unique, fun and challenging and our staff help make us outstanding!
We look forward to welcoming you back out again soon!

Great course and friendly staff
Course was a fun playing experience, though I encountered 12 sand traps during round. Rented clubs versus flying clubs and rentals were excellent, but maybe why I played 12 traps...HA!

Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club! We are so happy to hear our wonderful facility exceeded your expectations. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Course great. Cart and ball washers need some love
Course was great. Cart had no cooler with ice, no tees and ball washers were bone dry. Not a crisis but took away a tad.

Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club.
We are so glad you enjoyed the Starfire experience!
Thank you for your feedback, we are always working to improve the experience.
We look forward to welcoming you out again soon!

They should have paid me to play this course
This course isn’t even worth $20, let alone the $75pp we had to pay, even with a supposed hot deal. Although we were advised that the greens had been aerified about 10 days ago, they were still very slow and bumpy. But even worse was everything else, from the total lack of service at bag drop — the staff just watched us unload our bags and we had to carry them ourselves to a cart. The tee boxes were bare dirt, like they never bother to move the tee markers. The fairways and even the rough had almost no grass on them it was hitting off of packed dirt. The carts were dirty with spilled beer and bird droppings even on the steering wheel. Our cart had no windshield at all. Some of the ball washers had no water in them. The level of overall maintenance and service at this course was just horrible and I’d never recommend this course to anyone. I was robbed of $75 pp for horrible round. Advice, pay $99 per person and play TPC it’s 1000x better immaculate conditions.

Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not up to par, but your feedback is what motivates us to get better.
We will be working with every member of our team to make sure we don't miss these opportunities again.

Just go to McCormick. Waste of money in the summer.
First, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Can’t say enough good things about them. The course is also generally the cheapest option in the area.
Ball machine has been frequently out of order on and off for about 2 years now; makes it very frustrating to frequently have to walk all the way to the clubhouse to buy balls before walking back to the range. Not sure why ownership refuses to find permanent solution.
The range is essentially a big sand bunker right now (May 2025) (see photo). Not sure if it’s seeding or what but feels disrespectful for golfers because it’s basically unusable.
Pace of play has gotten horrendous over the last year or two. Last time I played was the tipping point where there was a 4 group backup and 15-20 minute wait to tee off each hole. Eventually 2 groups quit to request a refund. Heavy backups have become the norm.
Summer gets worse too due to course conditions and jamming people on the course. 3 years ago I loved this course and while prices are still relatively low, it’s not that enjoyable anymore. I just go to McCormick now.

Thank you for playing Starfire and thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not up to par, but your feedback is what motivates us to get better.

Pace of Play
Me and the two players I was paired with turned on to the tenth hole to find three foursomes on the hole. I turned to the parking lot!

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy so much of your experience was exceptional.

Rough shape
Like the layout, but man was it in rough condition, especially since the temps have been amazing. Driving range was the worst. No grass to hit off of, only sand. Greens were decent. Hope that they can figure out their maintenance issues because it will only get worse as the temps rise .
