Good Course - Very Bad Conditions
I have played and liked this course for many years but the current fairways conditions are inexcusable. Many large 30 yard patches of brown dirt on the King Course where grass should be. At least the greens and tee boxes were playable. Better value and conditions can be found at Silverado, McCormick Ranch and Talking Stick.
Ok
Played front 9 holes.
Fairways average. Greens very good.
Would play again.
Should have senior and 9 hole rates.
Bad condition
Played here many time but this time the course was in horrible shape. More mud than grass. No sand in sand bottles, no ice in cooler.
Poor experience for price

Thank you for the well thought out review.
What you experienced is by design, and part of a $9m course renovation plan designed to completely transform Starfire for its 75th anniversary in December 2028. If you'd like to learn more about that $9m renovation, please see HERE.
When we bought Starfire in September 2024 we found the course didn't meet our quality standards. There are many, many steps to bringing the course back to where we need it to be, but the first is/was the elimination of all weeds, which must be done from April to September. That process leaves brown, bare spots where weeds once were while the bermuda base takes its time to grow back in. That is what you experienced.
Bermuda that's been choked out by rye grass and weeds for many years doesn't all come back in one season. So you can expect that next summer the course will look a lot better than this summer, but still won't be to our standard. And that we'll be at it again. Please consider that before you play here in the summer.
You will find that when we come out of overseed in mid-October Starfire will be a spectacular golf course. So feel free to come back and play then. But whenever you're here, know that what you see is the result of our effort to make the course as good as we can today while simultaneously making it better for tomorrow. Our job is to do that. Your job is to play golf. We wish you the best wherever you choose to do that.
Sincerely,
Swing First Golf owners and the Starfire Team
What happened?
To be fair, I have played here several times in the past few years, and course conditions were fairly good. However this time, the course was in awful condition! Greens were satisfactory but fairways were bare, no good lies anywhere. Not sure what has happened here but I will not come back. Embarrassing!!

Scorched Earth
I love to hit StarFire at least a few times every year so when I saw the hot deal on Golf now I jumped on it. The only hole that was recognizable was number one after that it was almost like playing golf on a farm. It looked like the animals had been grazing, and they didn’t water anything. It was super dry even on the fairways I had to find a grassy patch just to hit off of. I would hold off this summer for sure and wait until fall for them to get some water on the course.

Downhill fast
Starfire has really gone downhill in the past month. Fairways are bare and brown. Maintenance guys just drive around acting busy but not doing anything. Greens were good and Starter was nice. Tall outside service guy with the right ear earring was more interested in gabbing with a friend than cleaning my clubs and earning a $5 tip when done. That's poor customer service. Still saw no bev cart girl after 8 am and before 10 am.

Avoid
Course in poor condition, even in the fairway you have to move your ball to find a patch of grass. Several dirt tee boxes. Marshall not controlling pace of play.

Slow round due to extremely slow play by group in front of us
Even with the course Marshall asking them to pick up pace they didn't which made it a very slow round of golf. There was several holes they could have called us up but didn't but I guess that's what you get on a resort course.
Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club.
We take speed of play seriously and make sure our course marshals and starters are continually working with our golfers on their pace. It looks as though we missed an opportunity, and we will continue to improve.
We hope to have you back for the Starfire experience again soon.
-Travis Fish, Director of Golf
We were stuck behind a very slow foursome
We asked for assistance with moving the group ahead of us along as they were constantly a hole or two behind the group in front of them. The ranger said he asked them to pick up the pace but they didn't. It took us 5+ hours to play a course that normally would take around 4 hours.
Thank you for your feedback. We are happy so much of your experience was exceptional.
However, we're sorry to see the pace of play was not up to your expectation. We take speed of play seriously and make sure our course marshals and starters are continually working with our golfers on their pace.
We hope to have you back for the Starfire experience again soon.

Walk in the country on a breezy summer day
Greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways were not in good shape. Pace of play on the back 9 was great. Course was fairly challenging on water holes. I had fun. People I played with were nice.
Thank you for the great feedback. We are so happy you enjoyed the Starfire experience. Our golf course is unique, fun and challenging and our staff help make us outstanding!
We look forward to welcoming you back out again soon!

Great course and friendly staff
Course was a fun playing experience, though I encountered 12 sand traps during round. Rented clubs versus flying clubs and rentals were excellent, but maybe why I played 12 traps...HA!
Thank you for playing Starfire Golf Club! We are so happy to hear our wonderful facility exceeded your expectations. We look forward to welcoming you back.
