Editor's Note: Course closed in 2018. See The Phoenician Golf Club listing.

The Desert/Oasis Course was the Phoenician's first 18 holes, which were later joined by the Canyon nine. The aptly named course may have desert surroundings but its numerous palm trees and blooming flowers will make golfers feel as though they've been transported to a tropical destination. Although all three golf courses cover only 150 acres, none of them feel cramped. Any lack of length is quickly forgotten after playing the creative challenges of the layout. The golf course offers plenty of variety that make it appealing to low and high handicappers alike. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the Desert nine, providing the breathtaking views that have led it to be the most requested course. The Oasis nine is memorable as well with water coming into play on six holes and a unique moat of sand on the par-4 finishing hole.

Course in Very Good Condition

In general, course was in very good shape, particularly given the AZ summer heat. Tee boxes = excellent, fairways = very good; greens = very good (a little bumpy on a few holes); sand traps = generally good, though depth of sand was inconsistent; pace of play = very good (3:40 for threesome); value = very good (with TeeOff rewards). Major construction project detracted from serenity in front 9. Plan ahead if using distant driving range, as access is through construction site and no cart path is in place, delaying movement to/from. Chipping and putting practice area was excellent. Water stops along the way, as well as multiple places where bottled water is available. Challenging but fair course. Hope to return soon.

A disappointment. Grass is very average. You play next to the highway and houses on the first nine. A lot of construction. Greens average. Overall Phoenician is very average and the price high. If you pay more than $45 a round, you are overpaying. I can think of 20 courses in the area better than this one with prices much more reasonable.

Course in very good shape for a summer play

The Tavern restaurant at the end of the round was awesome, great burgers with amazing secret sauce for frys.

The front nine layout was pretty good-not a difficult course, not built for 300yd drives-was pushed from behind-lots of blind shots on back nine and the back nine seems like it's in another part of the state-weird design. Tons of construction around the course which is slated to be done in 5 years. Lots of golfers on course with errant shots found 15 brand new golf balls-young men that are wild on every shot seen everywhere. Surprising number of guys in there 20s and 30s on a Friday playing golf
