Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
About
The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.
"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

great value
I have played Talking Stick North and South courses in the past and I have not had a bad condition round and the other day was no exception. Greens, fairways, tee boxes were all in great shape. I will be joining the Talking Stick Golf Club in October.
Talking stick
Long course only 2 par fives and a 260 yard par 3 7100 yards - greens in bad condition - typical desert course - if they would thin out the desert areas to make them more playable and at the minimum make their greens playable in the summer
Thank you for taking time to leave a review and for the feedback regarding the course. We are always looking for ways to improve!
North Course tough greens
The fairways are generous and the teens are huge. The difficulty increases when you have to read the undulating greens.
Talking Stick
I played Saturday, June 25th around 1030. Even with the heat the course was a busy place and pace of play was not smooth. They were letting twosomes go out and not pairing up groups and caused pace of play to be slower than it should have been.
Customer service was good throughout the day. Clubhouse and starter were both friendly and we saw the beverage cart numerous times throughout the round.
The driving range was chewed up and it was hard to find decent grass to hit on. The range is gigantic and it was disappointing to see this condition especially on a busy weekend.
The course was in good shape for late June in Arizona. Conditions throughout the round were consistent. Tee boxes were all level. The fairways were a little on the dry side but playable. The greens were in good shape and putted fast. Sand traps were a bit inconsistent. Some were nice and fluffy with plenty of sand while others were like playing out of the desert.
The North course is wide open and fairly playable. Some well struck shots are unlucky enough to find the desert with little to no chance of hitting out. Many desert areas are OB. My partner had a well struck drive roll three yards off the grass and under a dead mesquite tree.
I haven't played here in a couple of years and it was nice to play this course again. I'm not sure I could play this course regularly but right now the conditions are good to get a round of summer golf in at a place most people can't afford in the winter/spring month.
Enjoy the hot
Extremely hot day to play but with excellent results. The course was fun, wide open, and challenging yet never doubted as the course conditions remained up to par. Enjoy the warm breeze...
Low cost but average course
Definitely one of the poorer courses in this region. Price is low so should not expect much. Pace of play was poor.
Good value
Played the North on a Tuesday. Rate was good. Liked the staff. Course was in great shape and played really fast. Not the most scenic in the valley but a good test
Talking Stick - North
Course was in overall good shape. The greens were very hard and would not hold approach shots.
Great golf
Need to let us bring our own drinks or put out a few more beer and water carts.
True desert experienxe
No snakes were found :-). Good track and fun to play. I recommend.
Subtle and fun Talking Stick North
Of the three courses I played on my most recent trip to Scottsdale (including We-Ko-Pa Saguaro & TPC Scottsdale Stadium), Talking Stick North is certainly the most understated, particularly considering how flashy the hotel is, with its nightly light show and clubs and bars inside.
But fans of minimalist Coore Crenshaw will still find a lot of beauty here despite a flat, mostly featureless piece of property. We often praise architects for their work on spectacular terrain. But Coore-Crenshaw deserve a lot of credit for the subtleties they've delivered in a fun routing at Talking Stick, just east of the 101 freeway and very accessible from Old Town and Sky Harbor Airport.
The routing has big fairways, some neat hole designs and a whole lot of solitude. Native American courses have the benefit of not needing any adjoining residential development, and Talking Stick, while about as flat as it gets, is still a really enjoyable loop. I favor the North, a more wide open links-inspired course, over the more traditional South, which has more trees and water.
There are a few operational shortcomings here: there was no ranger on the course, and a fivesome held us up pretty good. Also, the driving range closing at 2 pm (only on Thursdays) wasn't great, considering I showed up early for my tee time to hit balls, and there is no chipping/pitching green, which would have been a fine consolation.
But for stay-and-play convenience in Scottsdale, Talking Stick still has one of the best setups thanks to the price point of the stay-and-play package and uniqueness of the two layouts here compared to its nearest peers. I'll still not hesitate to go back.
NORTH COURSE - 18 Holes
The excavated rough condition in the depressed area on the 12th hole of the North Course was unacceptable. Also, the music from the pool area of the Talking Sticks Hotel was too loud and could be heard on virtually every hole on the course.
So Slow!
Course was in great shape, it was a perfect day for golf in the Desert. When we arrived staff were on edge, no carts were available until about 3 Min before out t-time. The course was way over booked, pace of play was an unmerciful 5.5 hours for 18 holes. It was apparent that course Rangers had any intent on enforcing pace of play expectations. In our opinion it ruined our experience, and we are not super fast players or low handicappers ourselves.
Poor Quality - Overpriced
Talking Stick is very run down. Almost $100 per person is definitely not worth it for this course. Plus the rangers quit early & we have a bunch of guys hitting into us on several holes even though they saw that we had to wait for the players in front of us. We will NEVER go back to this course again. Course is very flat & definitely not beautiful or interesting.
Enjoyable course
Had a great time playing this course. It is challenging, yet fair. I will definitely go back. Stopped to get a bite to eat when finished. Very disappointed wth the speed of service and the very short menu, though.
Wish it wasn't windy!
Course was in good shape, the greens were really hard, couldn't dent them let alone hold them. Many were so fast few in my group could keep a putt on the surface. Service staff was excellent. For the price I would expect gps.
Talkingstick golf
I found the course in very good shape, pace of play was good, price wasn't bad either.
Speedy round great course
Dropped off my clubs and everything went smoothly from then on. Checked in and was sent out to the driving range. Great way to warm up. To practice green.and off right on time. Played in 3 hours and 15 minutes. Greens were fast an smooth. Fairways were in good shape for the transition time of year. Would definitely recommend it.
Good location
Course is flat and wide ooen. Typical resort course but hoping for more than a back and forth layout with little differences in the holes. Price was steep as well for what you get. I will say food is excellent and the staff is great.
GC Guy
North or South course.... either is awesome. Coore & Crenshaw design is superb!! I highly recommend this golf experience!
Hi Brandi,
Thank you for coming out and playing with us so many times. We are excited to have you join next month. See you at the course soon!
