Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
About
The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.
"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

overpriced
I've played many golf courses while traveling and in my opinion this course, Talking Stick North just failed to meet my expectations for such an expensivery round of golf. Troon North, and wee ko pa, are superior golf desitinations.
Flat but fun
turtleback greens with a little bit of speed. A lot of 390 yard 4s. It's got a few unique holes but you need a reasonable deal to be worth playing
great condition
First impressions are very important to me. I avoided this course because of the high cost in the past. Driving in I loved that it was seeded across the whole course. Very green and lush. Pro shop was friendly and acommadating. I brought my wife to ride along and they didn't charge a rider fee, which is good. Driving range and practice area was great and no extra charge for balls. Course was in great shape and not too hard as long as you stay out of the deep bunkers around the greens. My only issue was that I got paired with three unfreindly guys who weren't very good golfters.
Ozzie's take
Nice to see new management encourages loyalty with new card. I'm back after years of not playing Talking Stick because of cost. I live 5 minutes away. Course plays tough from 6500 yard markers with challenging long par fours. Only single digit players should play from back two tees!! Enjoy yourself and move up!!!!
Excellent Track
Second time I played the North Course. Really enjoyed it. Greens rolled true and fast, fairways in excellent condition. My only negative was the work of the starter. It was our Tee- Off time, I went to see the starter if our group could go. He indicated there was a group ahead of us. I let him know the tee had been empty for awhile(at least 10 minutes). So then he went to find the group that should have been off, they took awhile getting together and we got off late. Not sure what the starter is there for if they are not ensuring things stay on track. Other than that it was an excellent day.
Great day
Absolutely loved the course and facility. Large fairways, great greens and terrific conditions. Can't wait to return.
Nice!
Nice track in solid condition. The staff was friendly and pace of play was under 4 1/2 hours. The only thing that was less than great was the range was short on grass....
Good course
Course very straight forward. In good shape. Worth the $90 we paid, would not pay more. Had lunch after in at the course which was very good.
Don't Stop At The Turn !!
Our overall experience was good on the North course except when looking for food and drink at the turn. After being sent on a wild goose chase through the club house by several employees eventually guiding us to the bar in the clubhouse, we told them we need to forgo the order as we are making the turn. After a 5 minute stop in the clubhouse with no food or drink to show for it, we were approached (accosted) by an octogenarian marshal who chewed us out for stopping at the turn. After explaining that several staff had guided us through the club when we told them we were making the turn, he repeatedly scolded us for stopping less than 5 minutes. We since learned the beverage cart has sandwiches but no one told this and there were no visible signs posted that read "Don't Stop At The Turn - You Will Be Reprimanded". We will look elsewhere to play on our next visit to PHX.
Talking Stick
Very good course and very enjoyable to play. The greens were lightning quick and couse was in excellent condition.
Really fun track!
The South Course at Talking Stick was a really fun course to play. The course and greens were in completely immaculate condition. Very generous fairways make it a fairly easy driving course, with the approach shots and greens presenting the real challenges. The greens are nearly all slightly elevated, and many have shaved shoulders, a la Pinehurst number 2. A lot of false fronts made it imperative to carry approach shots far enough onto the green, or they would come rolling back at you. The greens themselves were extremely quick, but very true. Overall, a really beautiful and fun course to play.
Bad....play North Greens ridiculous
First, I booked to play the North course, but they put us on the South. Agreed to the switch mainly because they didn't advertise the North as cart path only. The south course is a nice layout, the greens are ridiculous. hard a rock, with massive false fronts on virtually every green. Will never play this one again.
Not worth the cost
Not impressed. Not worth the cost. Have played at 8 different courses in the last two weeks and would rate this near the bottom of the list. Cart GPS did not work. Promised it would be fixed. No one ever showed up. Course uninteresting when compared with other similar priced Valley courses.
Staff will take advantage of you, pay attention
I booked early to get a good rate. The guy that checked us in tried to charge was twice what I had already paid. Not cool. The course was pretty awesome and the food was GREAT. Best salmon salad I have ever had. I will be back but make sure you have your staff not try and take advantage of people traveling to boost Scottsdale economy.
Great Spot for Afternoon 18
Started at 1:44 and got around in 4 hours and 20 minutes - beat sunset by 15 minutes. Course was in great shape, unbelievable views and worth the $80/per player I paid in the afternoon!
Talking Stick - North
What you see is what you get. You can low on this course.
Beware Mosquitos
This is a nice course that have played many times. Enjoyable layout, not too challenging. Course was in good shape and enjoyable until about hole 13 (around 4 pm) then the mosquitos came out. By hole 15 it was in tolerable. I would wait to play this until a cool spell takes out the mosquitos.
Kind of whatever
A bombers course. Flat and wide fairways. Not much to it. Mosquitos were out of control. Range and putting greens closed and still charged $85.
A Good Resort Course
Playing in the afternoon is always a gamble, but the pace of play was good and we finished the round in just under 4 hours. Staff were friendly and facilities in good shape. The driving range and putting green were both closed due to over-seeding. The course is less challenging than other "target golf" desert courses in the area, featuring many wide open straight holes. It's often possible to hit your tee shot 40 yards in the wrong direction to the left or right and still be in the green stuff. Some holes offer challenging greens with tricky bunkers. Great views of the McDowell Mountains and sunsets over Camelback.
