Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
About
The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.
"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

Nice resort course in Scottsdale
I played the south course in the past but this was my first time on the north. The par 70 layout was lush and green and the greens have lots of slope and elevation changes but were a bit bumpy. GPS on the cart was not active. The are many steep faced bunkers which must be avoided if you are going to score well as many were hard and water compacted. Most of the par 4's played long (ie. 400 + yards) from the back and middle tees unless your a big hitter. A nice practice facility and practice balls included with the round so get there early. The rack rate is a bit steep but if you can get a good rate it is definitely worth a play.
Snakes abound....
Design of course leaves a lot to be desired. There are no memorable holes...just dog leg right, then dog leg left and lots of bunkers (although good sand in them). The course plays somewhat long from the forward tees for women with a mid to high handicap.
There was one very large king snake in on fairway. However when we finished our round all the staff seemed to be up top and I had to take care of getting our clubs to the car by myself. I found everyone gathered around a small diamondback by the clubhouse and having all the staff standing around looking at it instead of assisting players was offensive.
Accomodating my time
I scheduled a time for after 3:00 PM (3:17) for the price break. I had forgot that time, so after completing a round nearby early, I got to Talking Stick early. The Pro Shop staff accepted my after 3:00 PM fee, booked on GolfNow, and sent me to the starter. The starter paired me up with another single and I was able to tee off 2 hours early. It was great! The course was in great shape and the carts were good. Although I would have like to see a club washer but more importantly have the GPS working that day. The woman I was paired with (Illinois) was a delight, and the father and daughter that joined us at hole 10 (Minnesota) were very nice people. As for me, I'm from California. My tip to make sure you have a fun game, play with people that make your day, and play from the correct tees - it was driver on every par 4 or 5 hole.
Nice course, fast greens
Course was in great shape. We played North course and it was great. Not too challenging, but there are some tricky bunkers if you land in them. Greens were really fast which added to some of the difficulty.
Easy does it
This is a nice, forgiving Scottsdale course. The fairways are ridiculously wide and forgiving, with no real rough. The desert comes into play, of course, on virtuallly every hole, but you must hit a really poor drive off the tee to find it. It's a nice course, fun to play and recommended for average to high handicapers. The combo Gold/Jade tees are really too short at 5900 yds but the Gold is too long at 6500. Pick your poison and enjoy.
Talking Stick
Found the course to be in great shape. It was fair and challenging. The pace was a little slow. Found the staff to be very helpful.
Great Course
I found his to be a somewhat challenging course...you need to have your "straight" game! Love to play it!
Terrific course
Very well maintained
Not as hard as stated but lots of challenging holes
Great Golf and Coyotes
I'm always impressed with the condition considering that there is so much play. Always try to include one of the courses in my visits to the Phoenix area.
Decent...
The course layout was nice, and I liked how every hole was straightforward yet challenging. No crazy doglegs or anything gimmicky.
I was expecting it to be more groomed and tight-cut than it was...tee boxes a little shaggy and the greens were not consistent in speed.
Not worth more then $80
This is a nice course but not nice enough where they can charge more then $80 .Its flat and all the holes look the same there's way better courses around and way better deals.
Great course
Great course and facilities! The North is harder of the 2 courses in my opinion, it plays longer and only has 2 par 5's, scoring on the shorter par 4's is a must to have a decent round.
great day at a great crouse
Weather and course where near perfect. The North course is a good test well designed. Played 18 in just over 3 1/2 hours. Not a fan of the bunker sand but other than that the course was in excellent shape.
overpriced
I've played many golf courses while traveling and in my opinion this course, Talking Stick North just failed to meet my expectations for such an expensivery round of golf. Troon North, and wee ko pa, are superior golf desitinations.
Flat but fun
turtleback greens with a little bit of speed. A lot of 390 yard 4s. It's got a few unique holes but you need a reasonable deal to be worth playing
great condition
First impressions are very important to me. I avoided this course because of the high cost in the past. Driving in I loved that it was seeded across the whole course. Very green and lush. Pro shop was friendly and acommadating. I brought my wife to ride along and they didn't charge a rider fee, which is good. Driving range and practice area was great and no extra charge for balls. Course was in great shape and not too hard as long as you stay out of the deep bunkers around the greens. My only issue was that I got paired with three unfreindly guys who weren't very good golfters.
Ozzie's take
Nice to see new management encourages loyalty with new card. I'm back after years of not playing Talking Stick because of cost. I live 5 minutes away. Course plays tough from 6500 yard markers with challenging long par fours. Only single digit players should play from back two tees!! Enjoy yourself and move up!!!!
Excellent Track
Second time I played the North Course. Really enjoyed it. Greens rolled true and fast, fairways in excellent condition. My only negative was the work of the starter. It was our Tee- Off time, I went to see the starter if our group could go. He indicated there was a group ahead of us. I let him know the tee had been empty for awhile(at least 10 minutes). So then he went to find the group that should have been off, they took awhile getting together and we got off late. Not sure what the starter is there for if they are not ensuring things stay on track. Other than that it was an excellent day.
Great day
Absolutely loved the course and facility. Large fairways, great greens and terrific conditions. Can't wait to return.
