Rating 72.7

Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Hillcrest

Possibly one of the poorest condition courses I’ve ever played in my life. I would not recommend this course to anyone save your money and find a different course

We show up for our tee time, we check in, and staff tells us we will be playing the back 9 holes twice, as they’re punching the front 9. He however did not tell us the tee boxes were also not in play, and they had “tee boxes” in the middle of the rough. Awful conditions overall, 4 of the 9 holes on the back were WAYY overwatered and had big mud pits in the fairways, “tee boxes” and on the fringes of the greens. Greens were overall brown, dead and muddy. Nowhere did it mention on the GolfNow that any of the “accommodations” were made, and overall disappointing round of golf.

Course was using temporary tee boxes cut about 1300 yards off course

The course was soaking wet everywhere kinda like playing in a swamp

Wouldn’t play again until after all the eternal boxes new grass is playable

Everything else was good green slow but in good shape

Bad day at the course

The course was under repairs to most of the tees. They were scalped for new sod installations. There was no indication of the repairs upon booking. Usually I enjoy playing here.

Tee Box Leveling

They are leveling several tee boxes around the course and they have done their best to move the affected tees around to balance the round. Happy to see the proactive approach to fixing issues, it does make the course set up a bit differently. The greens are in great shape as usual.

The staff is always great and I recommend this course to all for a fun little test.

Not worth the price.

They charge WAY to much for the current course condition. For the same price or a few bucks more, you can play better courses in the East Valley. The positives: greens were in fantastic shape and the staff was great. The negatives: fairway bunkers are an absolute joke, green side bunkers were flooded or just in bad condition, many parts of the fairway were flooded, many parts of the fairway were not in good condition, just off the fairway were in even worse condition, and the worst part is all the tee boxes were dug up and being worked on so you’re teeing up on uneven and patchy turf. The right price would’ve been $40 but it was $60 which is only a few dollars less than the four courses at The Grand, which are some of the best in the East Valley.

Course under repair

The tee boxes and cart paths were under repair. Sometimes we teed off from the fairway making the course really short and we weren’t informed of the repairs prior to showing up. We felt the price was high given the condition of the course

Good course for the price.

There were a couple tee boxes that were soggy from too much water.
