Located in the west valley, the golf course at Coyote Lakes Golf Club combines a desert landscape and traditional design with scenic views of the White Tank and Bradshaw Mountains. Although it is modest in length and suitable for all players, the course is still an enjoyable challenge for even advanced golfers. The front nine is more difficult than the back nine with large greens and several contours. The back nine is also challenging though with several notable holes. The fairways are undulating on both and water hazards come into play on several holes. Coyote Lakes Golf Club's signature hole is the 14th, a par-3 hole that requires a shot from an elevated tee to a green that is well protected by two sand bunkers and a lake to the left.

Green Course in the Desert

Playing in AZ in August, you expect to see dead fairways on the rebound or recently aerated greens. This was not the case. Lush fairways and decent greens the whole way. Tee boxes were well taken care of as well. The added free lunch was a plus too. For $51 on a Saturday, it was a steal. The only complaint was the range. The range balls were some sort of foam plastic combo to prevent them from going very far since the range is so small. I typically don’t travel to the west valley to play courses but I’d come back for this one.

Overall Good Conditions

CL is one of those established courses that would benefit from a renovation. It has that old Sun City feel. That said, the course was in good shape, tee to green. The greens were a bit slow and inconsistent from one to the next, but were intact and not experiencing bad patches anywhere. There are the narrow shoots that cause angst for the wayward driver and the wall hole that creates its unique ‘go-for-it’ or layup opportunities. A fun place to play.

Just Okay

I paid $25 for golf so I can’t complain.

Boxes - Decent shape but huge spines/ridges on a few of them which made finding a flat surface nearly impossible.

Fairways - Were okay. Some brown spots but nothing too bad.

Greens - extremely slow, really furry.

Miscellaneous - there were about 25 trees that have fallen due to wind and rain. I’m sure they’re working to clean them up but some of the downed trees (4th green) took some of the fun out of the course. Sand traps were mostly dirt.

Great Value

This was my first time playing this course and I was thoroughly impressed. For $41 you get 18 holes and lunch. The best part is that course is in great condition considering it’s summer. Tee boxes were great, fairways great and greens were in very good condition. I heard they have a new owner and they have made a commitment to improving the course. Well, I’m impressed. BTW: the staff is fantastic here as well. It’s obvious they enjoy what they do and where they work. If you are reading this you’d better hurry up and take advantage of the low green fees now because the new owners will likely get wise and raise their prices. They’re going to learn that some other courses in this area are in terrible shape.

I have played this course a few times and it is always well kept up. Literally no dead areas even in roughly. Staff are great. This course will continue to be on the rotation for me.

Good value

Visiting from GA and played for first time. Most holes penalize you for inconsistent driver with hazard to carry. Some hills on fairways, so it tests your iron play.

Day was both hot and windy, but it was nice to zip around with few other players on course.

Great value for price. Will be back.
