Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West

About
Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Good course needs attention
Nice layout. Things are in need of a refresh...bathrooms, tee boxes, etc. Fair number of dirt patches and sand bunkers were under repair.
Pace of play
When I arrived they said there was a frost warning from the night before as this was a hoax as it was only 39 degrees the night before. Then proceeded to my tee time at 2:00 pm when my original time was 1:30. It took 2 hours to play the first 6 holes. Never again. Would not recommend.
Good track
Nice course. Some dry patches but stay on fairway and you be golden
poor pace of play
Waited on every hole. Rangers on the course but I assume weren't interested in improving pace of play in the morning and created a mess in the afternoon. Some of the greens have ridiculous slope, which I assume doesn't help the pace of play. If you're even 5 yards off the fairway you're most likely playing off dirt. This is a tired course that is still super challenging from its PGA/LPGA tour stop days from years ago now.
Close to Condo
Hillcrest Golf Course is located conveniently for my wife and me. The course is quite well kept and will challenge any golfer. If you are in Sun City West give it a try. Wait until after the Super Bowl because prices have escalated.
Fun course
Fun course, decently priced and almost always had available tee times.
Tee boxes looked terrible this week though.
Not bad, but in need of maintenance
The fairways were long, like they hadn't been cut in a week. The Greens were pretty good. I had forgotten that several of the greens have extreme slopes, making them quite a challenge. The tee boxes all seemed to be dome shaped, and the grass was long on them. The bunkers were overly firm, like they hadn't been groomed in quite a while. The overall course could just use routine maintenance.
Great fairways and greens
The pace of play was fantastic. Did not see a ranger but all groups I saw were keeping up with the group in front of them. Only issues we had were the sand traps and we played them as ground under repair. They are working on the back 9 at this time. The other issue we encountered was the 1st cut around the green and the grass on the tee boxes. Both areas are a little long which makes it feel sticky. But all in all we’re we’re extremely please with the course.
The staff we encountered was very friendly and mad us feel welcome.
Great Course
Myself and my wife have only been golfing for shy of two years now. We have played about 10 different courses in this area and majority of them are straight fairways and slight dog legs left or right. Hillcrest has given us something that makes this hobby come to life. This course forces you to make sure you lay up properly, and if you don’t, it will leave you in a bad position. This is great for me and the wife. We really enjoy the course. Only thing I can say is a bit different is the cart paths… they don’t really exist. Great course, and we both want to make it our home course!
