About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Dissapointed
I have played this course many times and almost every time I play it seems something goes wrong. First when we arrived they had no carts available. Then when we checked in at the clubhouse the guy charged my partner $10 for warm up fee. I showed him the confirmation email that states carts and warm up balls included. He then told us that we are not supposed to get warm up balls when we book on golfnow.com. Frankly i don't care what is supposed to happen i just showed you the confirmation. He then returned the $10. Then they charged another $10 as a deposit for a cooler? Then they were nice to drive us up to practice and said they would be back with a cart, they never came back. Then when we got a cart, on the 15th hole it ran out of electricity. We called the clubhouse and they said they would try and reach a guy to come out. As i said what other option was there! Well at the 16th hole no new cart, 17th nope! We were lucky we played with another group who pushed our cart with theirs for the last 3.5 holes. When finishing i asked where our cart went to and no one knew a thing. No apologies. This course treats players who book on discount sites like second class people. Will not golf there again.
Great course
Great course. Excellent condition and friendly staff. The course is challenging with some longer carries on some holes. Plenty of variety to keep it interesting.
course is in great condition
The course was in great condition. Lots of opportunity to be in the desert if you are not accurate.
Fairways need work
Great value. Fairways are a bit rough, but you can't beat the prices. Great views,.
You should make this course a must play
I was very impressed with the condition of the course, the challenge and the employees; especially for the money I paid. Also I was paired with a nice couple that played at an outstanding pace (3h 35m). I would highly recommend the course; but, watch out when you wander out into the desert.
Challenging fairways with lots of desert inside fairways
Great time. Wish I had an overview of the fairways.
Good course, poor staff
Beautiful course but constant pushing to speed up even though playing at a 4 hour 18 hole pace of play. Once done 2 guys rushed to unload clubs from cart before letting us get our gear from the cart. The whole day was rush rush when rushing was not necessary. Once in the restaurant for our lunch as part of the round out of most things on the menu. If you want constant pushing from the staff and poor service this is your course.
Vistoso
Fairways and rough beautiful over-seeded green. Greens are firm and a little slower than normal due to recent rain. Beautiful setting with the Catalina Mountains as a back drop for most of the front nine.
great course great price
This is one of my favorite courses to play. Always in excellent shape. Best bang for the buck in town.employes very friendly and make you feel welcome. Special shout out to Janet and Christine who do a great job with the patio!!!
ridiculous
4 + hrs to play 13 holes. waited on every shot. quit after 13 as we wouldn't finish, but saw at least 2 foursomes on 14-18 so many of them wouldn't finish either.
Nice course and facilities
Nice course with great views and beautiful desert landscape. Most tee shots require carry over desert terrain but landing areas are generous and fair. Greens were in very good shape.
We rented clubs this trip and that would be my only complaint. The rental clubs were in good condition but were a low end starter set that were poorly suited for better players. I am willing to pay a surcharge for better clubs and a course of this caliber should offer them.
course in excellent shape
Course was in excellent shape. Some tuff holes off tee box to clear the desert to get to fairways. Need some knowledge on how to play few holes. All in all a great course to play
Great shape
The course was in great shape. Some earlier reviews said otherwise.
Greens smooth and firm.
Fairways full and mowed.
Bunkers ..plenty of sand.
This is a unique course.
We'd like to play a second time. The first time around was difficult to navigate because we were not sure of the lay-out of the holes. A map of the holes would have been very helpful..
This course is coming back
Vistoso has not been in great shape. This season the work has paid off and it's looking and playing so much better. It is a jewel that was tarnished but now is being polished and fun to play again. It's still a little pricey for what a golfer gets. However, range balls are included, and some deals include lunch so watch for them.
Apparently under funded
Not much merchandise in pro shop. The course was not that great of shape compared to Starr Pass or quarry pines which we also played the same trip
very scenic and challenging
Awesome course. Practice facility is a little cramped and the turf on the driving range is not very good. Chipping and putting greens are a bit close together to be able to work on short game.
The pro shop personnel were not very friendly. A little put off by non members playing. I thought they were a bit snobby. They need to improve in this area especially when you are paying $100 to play this track. I might go back but there are better environments to play golf in the area so check out some other courses
interesting desert golf experience
Nice views, good desert golf experience. Some of the greens were not in great shape, but overall it was a very nice day. We all enjoyed the food.
Great condition
Fairly difficult course but is in excellent condition. Great location and views. Food is not very good but the beer is.
Course had just enough challenges
Enjoyed the course very much, would play it again. The course was in good condition and enjoyed the views
