The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Course in very poor condition.
Fairways and greens in poor condition. Poorly marked distances on many holes. Missing 150 and 100 yard markers on some holes. I was very surprised to find the course in such poor condition given the area of town it is in. High rent district with a resort community environment. No water chests on carts, and no refreshment cart on the course.
Golf course and facilities in very poor condition - more dirt than grass in fairways.
Course does NOT provide range balls when playing 18 holes. Only ice machine for golfers located near 1st tee box was broken; bathrooms nasty and unkempt tee boxes not maintained; and fairways in horrible condition. Had not played this course in over a year and it has been allowed to deteriorate.
What happened to the fairways
This course has been one of my all time favorites with the incredible conditions, great views of Pusch Ridge, and variety of holes. I was shocked by the brown tee areas and the barren fairways. The greens were reasonably good. If this were my first time out, I'd write this course off as a glorified muni with lots of nice housing developments around. Whoever is responsible for letting the conditions go so bad should be ashamed of themselves. Very sad.
Nice course in bad shape
Very rough conditions, they've turned the water off on most fairways. Greens are ok, funny ridges in them, not typical aeration holes.
I wasn't offered range balls in the pro shop and there were no balls on the range. The starter was friendly but disappeared after he got our receipt. So he wasn't a source of information at all.
The beverage cart girl was done by our 7th hole (we started at 10:00 am on a Friday). Her second pass, we tried to stop her but she didn't say anything and kept driving.
At the conclusion the outside staff asked if we wanted our clubs cleaned instead of automatically doing it. When I declined he threw his rag back at his podium. When my partner took him up on it he acted very put off at the opportunity to make $5 providing a made up service.
Overall it's a shame that such a good golf course is in such bad shape with non existent customer service. They are definitely feeling an economic crunch at Vistoso
great course, fairways and tees are burnt....greens are excellent...
great value for 25.00....needs work and lots of rain/watering...
Course ain't what it used to be
The fairways were brown, the greens were in great shape, tee boxes were cluttered with broken tees, clods of dirt. This is a tough course, every tee shot required a desert carry. Carts used to have gps with a course map, menus for lunch orders, plush fairways. Just not the same anymore - for $20 it was okay but I doubt my game is suited for the difficulty of the course and given other course values in Tucson it will be a long time before I play here again.
This is one of the best when in good shape.
The course is obviously struggling. They have now taken away the free range balls. How much could this really cost them? This course when in good shape is an awesome course. It's both challenging and also a lot of fun. This time the fairways what seemed to not get watered. The greens and the tee boxes were in good shape. When I asked one of the cart guys at the end of the round about the DRY fairways, they commented on the management being in trouble and saving money any way possible. They also said this might be the last day they would be open because they owed like $20,000 on their carts. I hope they can figure it out and keep it open and in good shape.
Getting hot, play early.
The course is in good shape, greens are fast and play was fast thou we started at 6:45. Wild life is everywhere, bobcats and others. Get an early tee time, course is at it's best then.
great desert golf
above average number of players in early morning hours for Tucson summer golf. Course is still in good condition while cost soars and many other local courses scale back or close..This being one of areas best; always in top ten; I hope it survives and would encourage every ones support..
Good views
The greens are in good shape and roll true. Tee boxes are fair but the fairways need help. Landing areas are thin and most are turning brown.
Still in great shape in mid-June
Tees and greens still had a lot of green grass and the fairways were in great shape too. I got off an hour earlier than my tee time and staff members were all really pleasant.
Needs attention
It's too bad maintenance is an issue. This is a very nice layout. Greens were OK but the fairways are badly "burned".
Great golf experience
Course was in very good shape and the round was very enjoyable
Greens excellent, fairways need some attention
Although the fairways were in need of more water/attention, they still played nicely and there are only a few brown patches on each hole. Greens were in very good shape still. I think this is a great value for the $. I've noticed a lot of complaints about the course condition, but since this is my first time playing it I cannot compare it to its past condition. I heard it used to be a top 100 course in the nation, and I can see why. It has the potential due to the design and beauty of it, but more care is needed to bring it back to its prime. I guess. Course still plays nicely though. Much better than Del Lago or AZ National right now. I don't recommend those courses at this point in time.
Vistoso Golf Club
Very disappointed with this course. None of my fellow players will ever return. Some of the staff was friendly, that is about all they had going for this place. The course was not maintained at all. it was burned, washed up, just in terrible shape. None of the ball washers had water in them. Not even a waste basket on one hole. So there was trash flying around everywhere. Our cart barely made it through 18 holes. It was chugging up to the clubhouse. I mean seriously you dont charge your carts daily? They need some work and just plain common sense! I would have golfed at a city course and paid more. Don't see this place getting far without a course overhaul. Maybe instead of Bar Rescue they will come out with Golf Course Rescue!!!
Won't be back!
Vistoso used to be gem. Terrific design and spectacular views. Paid great attention to detail. Nice landscaping, colorful planting around the tees. Current owners have turned it into a travesty. Obviously not committed to maintenance have just sucked the life out of it. Fairways hardpan and bare of grass. Very sad. Pro shop just empty shelves. Staff made excuses for the course condition. There are no excuses. The ownership just doesn't care. I'll play elsewhere, hope it changes hands and the new owner will restore it to a great track.
Bring some good drives with you.
First time to play the couurse. Enjoyed it .Not many people on the
course so we played in just under 4 hours. I like the set up and lay out of all 18 holes. You will need to be pretty good off the gold
tees with your driver. The greens were in good shape. I will be back for another try at it.
Challenging
This course presents a steep challenge for the average weekend golfer. There are many holes where it takes a long and precise shot to clear the barranca or arroyo and there are many holes where you have to avoid trees in the middle of the fairways. The greens were in excellent shape.
The course has a variety of greens.
The grass on the greens needed to be cut. The fairways were not very "grassy" may be due to the change over in grasses.
Worth 30.00 or less
This used to be one of the best courses in Tucson but now that IRI is managing it the condition is fair at best. Great layout and design but has really declined over the last few years.
