The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Needs attention.
The fairways are in need of some attention. I hate to see such a nice course waste away.
Interesting course, fun to play
Previous course knowledge is required to enjoy the course. Hidden greens and/or hazards are many and in play without clearly evident from the tee.
It is a shame
Vistoso is a GREAT track being horribly mismanaged. Need new owners...been playing there for 10 yrs and they get no more of my money until they start taking care of the place.
Was one of my favoite
Played here several years ago and could not wait to play it again when I was back in Tucson. I was very disapointed with the condition of this course This course use to be beautiful. It is now a track even the pro shop had nothing to buy. I wish I would have played another course. I will not return
fairways were spotty it still looks like they have not recovered from water being shut off last year
greens were ok looked like they were aerating them, had tee time at 6:36 but teed off at 6:50 they sent 2 member groups in front of us .overall for $30 not a bad deal, just sad to see a course that was one of the best in area in the shape its in now
Very good desert target course with some challenging holes.
The course needs more water. Fairways very dry at 8:00 a.m. The greens were fast and smooth and were holding well.
This is a finess course with narrow or bending fairways and hidden greens.
Very good course which makes you think. The rolling terrain broken up by vegetation areas can be difficult to read at times; and choice of irons over drivers or fairway clubs are often more prudent than not. back nine tended to bunch up due to course design. I'll definately be back.
Course needs attention
I can remember when this course was one of the top 100 courses in Golf Digest. The ownership has let the course go and has NOT been putting money back into the course.
How things change
Vistoso was one of our favorites in the Tucson area. Unfortunately, the maintenance budget doesn't appear to have allowed that to remain true. Fairways were dry and patchy. Greens were recently verticut, but that didn't hide thje fact they were shaggy, uneven and also patchy. Good thing they had reduced the green fee or we would have felt severly ripped off.
Course is a target golf experience
Generally the course was playable but there were several burned out sections of the fairways, the greens had just been verticut but not rolled properly and the bathrooms were not available for use.
Beautiful course - Staff could have been friendlier.
The Pro in the pro shop was almost rude to us - made us feel we did not belong there even tho we are members of Country Club in Fort Worth, TX, and regularly play this type course when traveling. I think the Pro was angry because we booked through GolfNow. We did enjoy the course although some of the carries were a bit too long for the more senior players. We also played Dove Mountain and the attitudes of the staff there were exceptional - don't know what going on with staff at Vistoso.
I love this course!!!
This course is in a beautiful location and the layout is fantastic. Why does the course struggle financially? The course should be better taken care of!!! The price to play should be lowered in order to attract more players.
greens were recently aerated.
Value for the money was great. Pace of play was very slow (almost 5 hr. round) ! Greens were recently aerated (not notated) and made putting less enjoyable.
beautiful course challenging layout
played here on a sunday afternoon love this course when it is in good shape .fairways a little dry but not unplayable, greens were ok some were a little chewed up. All in all decent value for the money will play here again but i hope they start watering more this course is a fun place to play beautiful scenery.
very interresting and challenging...fun to play
fairways were great....grens were fair....info for first time players could be better on 3-4 holes staff was awesome....course restrooms and ammenities excellent.....i will be back
A challenging layout from the back tees.
A beautiful layout. From the back tees, it is difficult to tell where the hole plays without apriori knowledge. In addition, without a course book for yardages, it is difficult to know how far the carry is to the fairway or from the fairway to cross hazards, etc. On select holes, there were yardages given to the layup but no info given for the carry over the trouble. The course was fairly dry, half the tees hadn't been mowed, and there were many areas where no maintenance had occurred. A fair value but one that requires too much local knowledge to play with confidence.
in very poor condition
glad i only paid $39 not even worth it
what part of horrid conditions do you need more info on????
Course needs water
Played here in late March and the fairways were parched. Pace of play was good until things got backed up on the last part of the back nine. Lots of forced carries over desert. This used to be a beautifully landscaped course but it has not aged gracefully.
Sunny Delight
It's been 20 years sense I last played here. The condition of the course was not nearly as nice, but the price has dropped to match. For well under 50 I got a round, cart, bucket of balls and 2 beers. That makes it a good value for me. The fairways were a little brown from some water problem the month before and the greens a little bumpy and slow. Sand traps are hard ( I tried several of them) and if you don't buy the yardage book you won't know the dangers off the tees ( lots of forced lay ups). It's not as grand as it once was but very reasonable for the area.
Course in good condition--
This is a Tom Wieskoff course and has always been one of the best courses in the Tucson area. The management group has struggled though the hard times so the course has suffered a little. The people are friendly and t'he staff are doing a good job
