The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Pace of play very slow. Ranger did nothing to speed up players.
The greens were a bid firm. (Wedge shots went 10 feet past divot. The course had double booked tee times so we were 20 minutes late starting off. It took 3 hours to finish the front nine and 2 1/2 hours to finish the back nine. Spoke to the ranger and his response was " I can't help them find their balls or hit the shots for them". Then he just drove off as we continued to wait for the group in front of us to clear the fairway. The course now charges for range balls. $5 for a small bucket. Most premium courses have free range balls. Over all, the course was in good shape and very playable. Greens had some bumpiness and as I said, were very firm and reasonable quick.
Good course but not spectacular
This is a solid course, nothing more. They are clearly running a bit low on money as the greens are a touch sandy and they ran out of golf carts when we arrived. That said, it has some fun and challenging holes and isn't terribly expensive so you get what you pay for.
This course is very challenging
Great views that make golf enjoyable even if your not having a great score!!!
Good desert golf hitting to specific landing areas with tough par 3's.
Vistoso requires accuracy with desert all around specific landing areas on many holes. There are plenty of opportunities to lose golf balls with stray shots. The back nine is a great layout with 3 good par 5's and 3 tough par 3's. This course provides a nice change of pace and a good value for the money.
Very challenging.
Very difficult, but fair. Lots of fun to play. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.
Too penal.
Very difficult course with excessive number of forced carries and blind shot requirements. Landing areas very narrow. Greens in good condition and fair.
Improving - Hopefully
Vistoso used to be one of the premier courses in Tucson, but if you have played over the past couple of years, you are aware how much it has slipped. Course conditions are getting better. It was a bit shaggy on Sunday, but that is probably explained by the recent heavy snow and frost. Will wait to see how things are over the next few weeks.
Service is still not good. Out of range balls, so they had someone picking on the range mid day, but without a cage on their cart, so everyone on the range had to stop hitting while balls were picked. Pro shop merchandise is a joke. Halfway house grill re-opened, so that is nice, and on course rest rooms were cleaner than recent visits, but still not great.
Hoping Vistoso is on its way back to a top notch course to play.
Challenging course especiallylly with 30mph wind
Typical challenging desert course. Pretty but greens fast and do not hold
Nice layout, fun to play.
Some local knowledge helpful. Large undulating greens are challenging.
greens are in great shape , view of the mountains are spectacular
The golf course is a wonderful tract. The maintenance needs to be improved as well as most of people inside they are not people friendly.
Vistoso
The staff was very friendly, but they wouldn't honor the free
golf balls. They want to charge $32.00 @ $8.00 a bucket. They
said they have told you people many times over that their price doesn't included balls and that I should ask you people for a refund. Because of them, my guest who werefrom out of town didn't spend a dime in the pro shop. I think everybody lost.
The course was in good shape, staff was helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed the day on the course. Some interseting pin placements. Reasonably good value for winter golf.
The course is in good condition
The only thing I didn't like, the yardage marking was poor
Great Layout
Love the the design. Terrific views. A great course that could be in better condition but would then command significantly higher green fees. One of the best courses you'll play for the price.
Pace of play was ridiculous!
Tee'd off at 1:40 pm. Play 13 holes in 4 hours. Quit!!! Never saw a marshal/ranger/player assistant. Have played the course many times and never had this bad of an experience. Started in pro shop, waited 20 minutes for group checking in ahead of us. No one else seemed to care about checking us in, told only 1 register available for check-in. Seems the customer service at this course is going downhill in a hurry! My group will not be returning for some time to play this course. Too bad because it is a beautiful course and in great condition right now!
Tough Course Rude Staff
The course is going bankrupt. I shows in the way staff treat you. Needs new ownership and staff. Dont bother complaining to GM, he does not care and poor customer service!
Very good condition, challenging, spectacular views, excellent bargin
I've played Vistoso for years and it is back in very good condition. Challenging layout, unique & memorable holes, tough back nine, beautiful views of the Catalina Mtns. greens in excellent shape, some fairways a bit thin and some traps need sand, good breakfast, quality practice facilities, an excellent bargain. Considering it's location, if there is a freeze the previous night, morning tee times will be delayed so you might call before you head to the course.
Great setup and great views.
One of the tougher desert courses in Tucson, hitting fairways is a premium on this course. If you like to "think" your way around a golf course, then this is a course for you.
Great Layout
I have been playing Vistoso every winter since 2001, and it is now in the best shape I have seen it since they rebuilt the greens several years ago. I know they have had watering issues on occasion, but when this course is in decent shape, it is a great golf course - one of the best in southern AZ. Each hole has unique character, and you have to know when to be aggressive and when to back off. It's a real good test with a perfect risk/reward balance.
Desert layout with challenging holes.
Course is very picturesque and challenging. Play tends to be slow as many holes snatch balls with desert flora and washes in or nearby landing areas. Greens and fairways were good. If wind is blowing, plan on very long day. Also given ball searching, pace of play is highly influenced by who is playing in front of you as course is difficult for higher handicaps.
