DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Lotta ups and downs
Restaurant closed on Monday and Tuesday. Stuck behind a 4some walking but they tried their best. Staff was mid. One hole was cut in half due to tree maintenance. Saw a deer.
Generally pretty good
It’s worth it for the hot deal price of $61 to $67. - wouldn’t pay regular midweek rate.
Tee boxes are terrible.
Greens are pretty good - but they should find a way to encourage people to fix ball marks. Excessive amounts of ball marks make the quality of the greens just OK - they could be excellent.
Sand traps are poor.
Fairways are inconsistent - basic for public golf.
All this is sadly becoming the norm for public golf courses in the bay area
Nice layout poor conditions
The course has an excellent layout but the tee boxes and fairways definitely could use some tending to. Felt like hitting out of the rough no matter where you were on the course from tee to green. The greens were in pretty good condition which was nice. It's just not worth the price given the condition of the course.
Delaveaga is the best value around
I love the course—it offers a good challenge without being too easy. In the temperate Santa Cruz; there’s a nice mix of length, difficulty, and overall, the course is very fair. Some holes are tight while others are wide open. If only they had the budget to redo the bunkers and flatten the tee boxes. With sneaky coastal views and glimpses of the Chaminade on the back nine, this course has a little bit of everything. It is sort of like the poor man’s Pasatiempo.
Delaveaga
Delaveaga is a good track. The greens are maintained well, and routinely aerated. However the greens should be mowed down a little more to increase the speed of the greens and have the speed of the greens reflect their maintenance quality.
Disappointed
Pace of play was very slow one. group holding everyone the back. Need a Marshall to regulate pace. The tee boxes were in bad condition and the fairways needed to cut. My cart keep dying on hills. I was very disappointed.
Very poor conditions for 2024
I’ve been playing this course off and on for 20 years and extremely disappointed in the level of care and upkeep for the entire course.
There is just very little upkeep of the tea boxes or fairways to even a minimum level.
Nice Pre-Thanksgiving round!
The weather couldn’t have been better! The pace was perfect. The beers were cold. The greens were true. Haven’t played here in over a decade, but I will definitely be back soon!
Delaveaga Single line irrigation
Delaveaga golf course is a wonderful Track but in Mediocre condition. It's my recommendation that Delaveaga transitions to a desert style naturalist golf course with a Single line targeted irrigation system that can substantially shrink the irrigation footprint of the golf course. With tee box only watering instead of entire tee area watering. By transitioning to a naturalist style golf course, Delaveaga will save the City water while simultaneously allowing the maintenance staff to MANICURE only a small portion of the golf course and allow Delaveaga to compete with nearby golf courses
