DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Pace of play is lousy
I live so close to this course, I really want to like it. I've played it probably 30 times over the past three years, but the pace of play is just so lousy now that I am starting to drive much further away to play other courses. I wish they would put a ranger out on the actual course to move folks along. There are fivesomes playing, people looking in the woods for their balls for 10 - 12 minutes, etc. Last time I was there, I even saw a dude doing push ups in the middle of his run in the middle of the 10th fairway. Literally in the middle of the fairway. Makes me want to join some douchey country club.
It finally rained
Fairways were as bad as it gets on most holes. The greens were soft and slow due to the recent rain. The worst part about the greens was that a lot of players weren't fixing their ball divots. I fixed at least 15 that weren't mine.
We need rain....course is in bad shape due to the drought conditions.
This course is one of my goto courses but paying $45 to walk in this condition is way to much. There is no grass in most fairways(because of no rain) understandable. The greens are just horrible right now......which is not acceptable, since they are still watering the greens.
I would be really upset with the lack of green care if I was a annual member...
Poor condition
I liked this course before, but this times, green and fairway was not maintained. Green was really slow, and quite a lot of bumps.
And badly, the pace was terribly slow. We were waiting at every shot. We asked golf shop to improve it, but they didn't do anything. As a summary, it was really painful round.
My son loves the course...his favorite
Delaveaga is his all time favorite....greens well maintained and very nice environment...best weather the day before Thanksgiving
Course in terrible condition due to lack of watering.
Had played this course in the past, still a great layout. But current condition horrible nothing but hard pan around greens, all greens but number 18 dried out, bumpy and splotchy. Fairways and rough same condition.
Locals informed us they know course is unplayable due to availability of water.
If they would have been forthcoming on the conditions of the course, we would had booked at another time.
greens were bumpy & long, carts were older
All in all it was a fun & beautiful day on the course. We were over dressed as I saw golfers wearing jeans, so no dress code.
DeLaveage good bang for your buck.
Course in good shape and good value for money. Some difficulty but enjoyable.
Punched
Should have a symbol stating if the course had been punched recently.
Course is being aerated greensa and fairways
Green aerated last week, very sandy, not mowed..there starting to arate the fairways, very wet and muddy. Course will be great when done, very challenging ...
see your review
We always love the course but no one mentiomned the the greens had been plugged and sanded. They were impossible and the course should have been charging half price. In the future GOLF NOW should advise of the condition of the course so that we can decide if we want that course or another.
Thanks:

Nice course up in the SC Hills
Pretty course with OB that is really OB. Fairly slow play but scenery is worth the wait.
GREAT COURSE
3 players out of our foursome never played here before - we all said we would like to come back. The course was not long, but very challenging - great fun! Normal prices are a bit pricey however.
A fun course to play
Running late coming from the east bay, called and the staff was Great about letting us have a later tee time. This course has its challenges and the OB is a DO NOT ENTER. Poison Oak abound so we played Vegas rules, OB, drop and play on. Always enjoy this course, Marshals are always around for slow play and are friendly and helpful. Remember that there is NO cart girl during the week so take extra refreshments when you go to the first tee. Price is worth the round. . . .
overall enjoyed this course
the course was in good condition..greens were very good...if you have never played this course it can be difficult as there are several holes where the flag is not visible ,,luickily I played with a local and he helped me navigate some of the doglegs...before my round I was searching for the range ball dispenser..and was scolded for going somewhere I was not supposed to be..he asked," can I help you?" looking for some range balls...I said..well we rope that area off so no one will go in there..so your range balls are probably not in there.." his reply ..then gave directions...didn't seem like he enjoyed his job..or thought his talents were above a lowly range ball dude..
Decent Muni course.
First, the stated rate of $60 for weekends and holiday is a bit steep for the course. The GolfNow price of $58 overstated the discount on the course.
In decent shape but the greens were quite bumpy as if they had not been mowed or rolled in a few days, but it was the 3rd day of a 3 day weekend.
Not really worth driving over an hour to get to but overall a pretty decent Municipal golf course.
Good time
This course is much more challenging than the yardage indicates
Great staff. Great course condition.
First time here. Not my last. Pleasureable day. Friendly staff. Course well maintained.
Challenging, tight course
Extremely challenging - don't let the length fool you.
Free birthday golf is great!
A friendly staff with friendly course marshals will always bring me back to play at Delaveaga. Note that if you haven't played this course, it would probably be favorable to your round if you have a friendly local in your group.
