DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Beautiful course, somewhat slow pace of play
This is a beautiful well-maintained course, both challenging and fun. However, our foursome found ourselves waiting on most holes. Saw several fivesomes on the course. Certainly would recommend it to friends.
Enjoy the scenery!
The forrest that surround Delaveaga not only leave you isolated from the modern world but require a skilled choice of hits to navigate its narrow fairways. You will also enjoy the weather in santa cruz because it is rarely ever too hot.
Challenging Course. Good Value for the $$
Played on Sunday with three friends. Course was in good shape. Greens were very good. Weather was great! Definitely one of the funner courses in the area.
Nice course at the Golf Now price.
I have played this course many times as a local to the area, Golf Now offers a deal that is too good to pass up to play this course. Regular rates are a bit high for this course normally.
Great Public Course
Great / fun ...need to keep it straight. Quite a few slow players ahead of us.
Just plays tough. Mostly uneven lies and narrow fairways!
Put away driver and just find a way to place it in the middle. Greens can be tough to read and can be a little bouncy. Otherwise, this is just a challenge for anyone. Must play a lot to figure out where to hit the ball to get a good look at the green. If you have poison oak reaction, stay clear of lateral hazards-it is everywhere! 10th hole is probably hardest hole within 40 miles. Good luck!
Players that hit right will find high scores.
There is a lot of danger to the right on just about every hole.
DeLaveaga is one of my favorites
DeLaveaga is a great course in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Challenging layout with lots of canyons to gobble up your balls, so hit it straight! Greens were in excellent condition.
municipal marvel
Delaveaga is a municipal course that has many challenging holes and it is maintained very well, especially the greens. Out of bounds is often down a steep cliff, so precision is rewarded and loose play heavily penalized. The course setting is gorgeous in the Santa Cruz hills, just out of town, making for a lovely day of golf. It can get crowded, but usually it's worth it.
Very challenging for first timers.
Very interesting layout. I didn't always know where the holes were heading. You don't need to be long off the tee, but you had better be straight. You can be severely penalized for missing some of the fairways. I would only recommend the driver on a few of the holes (less than half of the Par 4's and 5's). Within the first six holes we saw at least four different rangers patrolling the course. They are making every reasonable effort to enforce a 4 hour round of golf. Greens were slower than I had hoped for, but they putted fairly true. Would love to play the course again on my next trip to northern California.
Easy going Saturday in the sun.
My brother and I get out only once in a blue moon. We both are new fathers and I have another one due next month. We charish our outings as they seem to be fewer and far between. We had a great time in the sun on a saturday. The greens were much better than the last time I was there and we didn't have to wait on more that two or three holes the entire round. The course always gives us a challenge and since we both have played this course since we were teenagers we will keep coming back when the wife lets us have a day off.
great staff, fun and challenging course. can't always grip it an rip it off the tee, which makes it more fun.

Amazing Course
One of my favorite courses in the bay area. Make sure you get out early to ensure a fast play. Anything after 10 or 11 expect a 5 hour round.
Pace of play or a weekend during the Masters was pretty good.
Pace of play was surprisingly good for a weekend! Might have been because it was Masters Suday. Green's were in great shape, and the ranger was on duty and doing his job well.
Always beautiful, always a challenge.
Greens are sneaky, fairways narrow and it is always awesomely beautiful. Highly recommended!
Excellent course!!
This course makes you play in a "Manage Golf" way. You have to plan each shot and especially your 2nd shot.
A great golf venue!!
Fun track in beautiful setting
Greens were in good shape, fairways a bit rough in places but good overall. Rewards conservative (or accurate) play off the tee -- errant tee shots will find the trees/hazards. Pro shop was helpful: don't go right on the front, don't go left on the back.
Tight layout. Decent greens.
We got a last minute deal and headed over the hill. This is a good test of your driving skill as there are some very tight tee shots needed on some holes. You also need to be on the correct side of the fairway or you'll be blocked out by trees. Pace was slow but it was the weekend so no surprise. Good course to practice shaping shots. Greens were good because they hadn't punched like a lot of courses in the area.
A good test of golf!
Greens were fast and fairways were in good shape after being punched two weeks ago.
Great local course in Santa Cruz
DeLa is always a challenging tight course. It's fun to play and has a beautiful scenery. Trees, deer, view of the ocean.
