DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

DeLaveaga
No marshall to encourage pace of play, course conditions were not good, greens pretty good but lots of bare spots on them. Nice driving range and practice areas
Overpriced, poorly maintained and a total let down.
I’ve always been wanting to play at this course. I can tell right away that I was going to be disappointed. I paid $94 on GolfNow.
I hopped in a cart which I ended up returning because the brake wouldn’t lock. The cart was old and dirty and squeaky. It had garbage in it from the previous golfers.
I went over to the ranch which was in very poor shape. The balls were extremely dirty, the matter old. I proceeded to the first hole a few minutes before my tee time. I had to wait for the group ahead. I found out that they allow for members to go out in groups of five. Obviously that’s going to slow play down significantly.
The course layout is challenging. The fairways that are not golf course grass and they are very hard; the greens are not well maintained and have lots of unfixed ball marks; the tee boxes are uneven, have lots of dirt and long grass. Even the water hazards are gross. The course is poorly marked and simply in disrepair.
Don’t waste your money. I walked away angry and I felt like I was robbed when I could have gone to an exceptional course for the same cost.
fungus on green, not maintaned well
Many green had fungus or dead zone in additionto the soem bare ground near the fairway.
Overall loud & noisy golfers everywhere. I should have used noise cancelling airpods for every shot.
Escape the heat
I’m more inland and temperatures reach the 90s so Santa Cruz compared to Monterey this is the move. Challenging course but always been a good time.
Ugh
We played behind a 5some which never should’ve happened. Slow play, ridiculous and uncalled for!
Great Layout Not Great Conditions
The course has a great layout and is a lot of fun to play however the conditions of the course are disappointing. There are a lot of dry/dead spots and the tee boxes are really bad. The staff are all great just need to fix the conditions and it would be worth the money currently the price is pretty high considering the condition of the course.
Great day of golf
The course was in excellent condition. The staff were very friendly.
🙃
An amazing golf course experience ,quite and gorgeous
Perfect shape the green is just very enjoyable.
Shop is very nice good costumer service and a grill restraunt as well. Good service good food
Excellent Santa Cruz option
Fun course. Good condition. Challenging but fair.
Maintenance needed
Bring your putter and enjoy the well maintained greens because that is where the grounds
crew is spending all of its time !
Tee boxes, if you can call them boxes, terrible. Fairways have not been watered or mowed, no second cut….
I’ll stop! Disappointed for this historic track that deserves better!
Going to the beeech
Love this course.. I just wish it wasn’t over a 100 on the weekends. Hot deals sit green fees with a cart around 60-80 bucks so I’m happy with that. Hole 10 can suck it but this course is good challenge, makes me feel like American made wood products compared to plastic made in…. 8/10
In better shape than usual
The course played as well or better than any time in the last ten years. Short but challenging shotmakers course. Bad shots are generally lost here. I would not pay more than 50 but am a bargain golfer.
Course was in ok condition. Some of the tee boxes were terrible. Greens were in great shape. Pace was slow 5:15 round.
