DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Disappointed
I'm sorry guys. I love the course. It is just getting worse and worse. I know there has been a lot of rain but to lose your ball in the middle of the fairway because of the length of grass was just bad. It takes longer to play because everyone is looking for their ball. 5 1/2 hour round. Then the price has basically doubled to play. Nope. I normally play in the Sant Cruz area about 10 rounds a year.
Good luck finding your ball
How hard is it to either cut the grass or tell us “all” prior the grass hasn’t been cut for a couple weeks? Waste of $100. Thankfully it was a nice day.
Crap course not with the money
They don’t mow. There is no fairway just a big lawn. Greens are decent good bar and range. Not worth the money.
Great Day for Golf in SC!
Beautiful day, great place to play golf, and friendly staff!
Could be a lot better
Tee boxes are uneven which lead to tee shots above/below your feet. Fairways are long. Bunkers don’t have sand. A little investment in these areas could go a long way.
Challenging course and rough conditions
I was able to book this course with a “fire deal”. I was able to play till about the 13th hole before it was too dark. The staff and people are great. Course is beautiful with great views. However, 2 things to note.
1. This is a course on the more challenging side. Narrow fairways with A LOT of hills. Most of your second shots will be above or below your feet. This is not a drawback, just something to note for beginner golfers.
2. The fairways and scoring areas were extremely hard. Myself and the gentleman I was playing with had a very hard time with our wedges due to the conditions within 100 yards of the greens. The ground seemed hard (no give) with inconsistent grass/dirt. Maybe it was the time of year but other coursed I’ve played the last two weeks did not suffer from this.
Very disappointed
They sanded the greens earlier in the week , couldn’t tell if the bunkers were greens or greens were bunkers !
Challenging course, bring your A-game
It is a very challenging course. Most of the fairways are narrow. You need to be precise with your shots. If you’re a bit off to the right on the front 9, say goodbye to your ball, if you’re a bit off to the left on the back 9, same thing. And you need to dial in your distance as well, a little short or a little long, balls go bye-bye.
But if you bring your A-game, you will be challenged & rewarded.
Terrible customer service
Didn’t want to honor my Golf Now prepaid Hot Deal, even though I showed them my email confirmation. Rather than simply calling Golf Now (who they willingly and gladly contracted with to access their subscribers) to resolved the issue, they seemed more intent on arguing with me. I will never return to this course. The greens are in good shape, but the tee boxes are in terrible condition. There are too many good alternatives nearby.
My DeLaveaga Experience
I was trilled to play this course. The staff were inviting, informative, and professional. The course itself was in great condition.
Seen better days
The water situation and the fungus that's spreading across the greens isn't helping the conditions. They really should try putting sand in the sand traps. The beach isn't far...
Not worth the price
Tee boxes, Fairways and greens in terrible shape throughout. Uneven tee boxes that didn’t look like they’d been mowed in weeks. Fairways looked like a cow pasture. Greens were burned in several places. Definitely not worth the $80+ we paid on a weekday. ,
