Chesapeake Golf Club
About
Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Green on the back nine. Pretty representative of a fair number of greens. Photo submitted by marcpeot on 06/09/2024

Should have played it sooner.
Very fun course in very nice shape. Green fairways and tees and nearly perfect greens. The course is kind of tight and there is rarely another fairway to bail out to. The short yardage is a little misleading because on several of the holes you have to lay back to avoid going into the water hazard and then you have a long approach shot. I certainly recommend it.
Good for the price Golf Now special
I enjoyed the course and after adjusting to the sea level distances, I was better able to choose my clubs appropriately. Most greens failed to hold the approach shots for the fairway or the rough. The water holes were tricky until I drove up to the waters edge and gaged the distances better for the lay-ups and carries. Definitely helpful to play often to score better. Most holes require a well placed tee shot to get it onto the greens. Fairways overall in good condition with some grass but not full growth to have the balls sitting up.
I would play it again, later in the year when it green -up. After coming from Michigan, I guess the grasses are delayed in coloration and growth in Virginia.
chesapeake golf club
greens were very good. Great golf for the price of $15. They are in much better shape than Battlefield or Nansemond River.
Love my local course
I love my local course--price is right, staff is friendly, course is challenging without being overwhelming.
Chesapeake (E2)
The fairways had a lot of pot-holes from flooding damage and the heavy rains earlier in the week, didn't help. The greens were really good though, but most of the bunkers were flooded.
No ruff
If you like to play golf amongst houses this is the place for you. Really no ruff. You have to worry about hitting a house on every hole. Then you must also watch out for the residents that are mowing their lawn. Then there are the 89 yard part 3's. Holes that were purposely shortened so that people would not bust windows.
Michael,
I'm sorry your round wasn't enjoyable. I would love to have you back out here in May and/or June when the ruff has come in. We are working on moving the tee's back for all of our par 3's. And I understand that it takes the funny out of it when you hit the same club on all of them.
Please feel free to email me.

1st time
Great course, fairways are tightly lined with homes but still a great course to play.
Cart path rough on the back
Course is decent. The pace was extremely too slow.
uCXDO1834CX,
We are looking to have more of our cart paths fix soon. I'm sorry about your slow round. Please email me at charleslynnpga@yahoo.com
Best course for the money
Course is a challenge with water on some holes, despite bad weather conditions during the year course was in good shape. Greens held and putted true and fast. Highly recommend it.
Chesapeake GC
Not bad for my first time in 2014. Played two more times for a total of three last year. Will go back.
Great way to burn off holiday extra calories!
Course was damp after several days of rain but overall was in great shape for early winter. Course is challenging without being punishing. Would go back tomorrow!
good course needs work
I have played here quite a few times. The only bad thing is the cart paths really need to be fixed. The holes and ruts are really bad on the kidneys. The greens are kept in nice condition. The fairways need some TLC but are not bad. The value is average for the money.
Great Hometown Course
This course is always a great time. This round was a little slow due to two other groups in front of us holding things up, but the weather was beautiful so it's not even a complaint. The staff here is excellent and we'll be back.
Potential
This course is difficult and has the potential to once again be a gem. However, the overall conditions at this time are lacking. While for the most part the greens putt true, the tee boxes and parts of the fairways are in rough shape.
Nice layout
Chesapeake Golf Course is one of the nicest golf courses for your money! I have played about all the courses in the Hampton Roads area and have played some high dollar courses that pale in comparison to Chesapeake.
You won't regret playing here!
Quiet on Friday afternoon.
This course is well maintained. I played solo on a Friday afternoon, and had a great rate of play. Polite staff. Overall nice course with a few challenging surprises. This course is located in a highly populated neighborhood, so use caution. Close proximity to homes, cars, people and pets.
I highly recommend giving this course a try.
Yardage not well posted
There are hardly any yardage on the course except markers on the cart path. The tee box yards are diiferent than the score cards. Many blind water hazards without yardage signs to the hazard. Suited for repeat players, definitely not for first timers.
Vince8384229,
I'm sorry that the course was poorly marked, We have fixed all of that. Please be our guest next time you would like to come out.

Nice Local Neighborhood Course
Used as a practice course with challenging shot selections on many holes. Staff friendly and main golf surfaces kept well. Stay centered for best time and watch out for the water...try the lay up and long approach once in a while. Sometimes funner to run or fly the ball up to the green from 175-220.
great course great staff
need to control the poison ivy a little bit better
Scout
No signs ,markers at tee box to indicate distance to or carry water hazards. No mention on score card either. Would be very helpful.
