Chesapeake Golf Club
About
Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Should get refunded
Course conditions were horrible.
I used to play there couple of years ago but last Sunday was the worst experience of my life at Chesapeake Golf course.
I’m not going there again ever.
Golf now tricked me by offering such a high price for a course that is worst than any municipal course conditions.
I should get my money back & should be given a pass to play somewhere nicer.
What a shame.
Greens are shot
Greens are in terrible shape. Barely any grass on 14 of 18 greens. I’ve played courses with sand diesel greens that had more grass
Unplayable.
I want to qualify my review by saying that I love muni courses and their purpose in golf, but this course is unplayable at best. The greens are grass less and instead a mix of dead fungus, mud, and sand. The course was a lake amongst lakes with no drainage whatsoever. The powers that be should either invest into the course, only charge $20/round, or shut it down. It was a rip off. Very disappointing.
Avoid ever going here
I am from this area but this was my first time playing here. HORRIBLE conditions. Only 4 greens have actual grass on them. The rest are all dirt. Not thin grass, not a few bald spots, all dirt! The tee boxes are full of dirt with no grass. The course is no better than playing in a mud field. HORRIBLE conditions, worst I’ve ever seen. They need to immediately close the greens for repair and should be honest about conditions. We deserve a full refund since not a single hole was in playable condition.
Grass less greens
Greens were horrible, half of the greens had no grass
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GREENS
Was it too much rain , geese . Why does 18 have to only mixture of Bermuda and crabgrass or what every it is. Been that way for 2 years when I started playing
Wait 6 Months to play!
Always enjoy this course, but all the greens are dead and like putting on an Armadillo presently and no mention noted in Golf Now so we played automatic two putt once on the greens.
I would stay away for 6 months and hope they can turn these green conditions around.
I feel like I should get a free round for the deception and lack of warning on this site for my golfing buddy and myself.
Conditions horrible
10 out of 18 greens completely died off. Course should not be open. They should have temporary greens until conditions improve. New ownership is running it into the ground. Refused to give discount, was told conditions are playable. Zero grass on 10 greens, the rest were patchy.
BAD SHAPE
I’ve played a lot of courses in Hampton Roads for years. The course greens are horrible, tee boxes horrible and the rough hasn’t been cut in some time. As a long time golfer, it’s sad that you guys have let this property fall off. If there isn’t immediate action to improve those obvious concerns, this course will meet the same demise as Calhoun Plantation golf course. Won’t golf there again until renovations are COMPLETE !!!!!!
Greens Need Help
Great value if you arent keeping score. Multiple greens are unputtable.
Lost greens
The greens are completely gone. The rest of the course is in good shape but they have lost the greens.
The course is not in good shape. Through golf now i paid $24, good price for the time i played. However if i had to pay full price of $40-$50, i would be very upset, the greens were in terrible shape, they were all cracked, i assume from standing water or just being so dried out. Doesn’t seem like they care.
Go Elswhere
I've played this course a lot over the years and have never seen it in such an abysmal state. The greens are either diseased, cracked like the Sahara, or full of weeds. The rough is so overgrown if your ball rolls even an a foot off the fairway good luck finding it. The fact they are charging players $40+ to play is near criminal for the state of the course. Easily the worst course in the area now.
Course conditions are bad especially the greens
The course layout itself is not bad, but you do have to deal with it being within a neighborhood, so, if you're one who slices or hooks, I highly DO NOT recommend. Pace of play was not bad, but I was early before most people came to play, I did catch up to a pair that started about 3 tee times ahead of me. The greens are just HORRENDOUS, weeds growing on them, dead spots with moss, honestly, there has been A LOT of rain in the past 2 months I moved here, but the greens looked abandoned, just absolute horrible greens. The price to play is cheap for the area, but coming from all around the US, I would honestly rate the course as a $5 course, one that is nearly free and no up keep except for a mow. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Neglected course
Course maintenance is lacking. Tee boxes are better than the greens, grass was too long to find a ball clearly in play. Layout is atrocious. Wouldn't play here again if it was free.
