The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

worth the drive
it is always worth the 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there.
usually in great condition. sometimes fairwaysare cut a little shorter then i like. but i love the course
Bayonet Course
I was expecting a better condition course for the price they are asking. My first time playing the course because I heard good reviews about it but it looks like the course is going downhills. I'm not sure if it was because of the pandemic but I hope they bring the course back to it's standard.
Great course.
We always play here when we come to town. Playing Black Horse tomorrow.
Great property
Fantastic layout... Difficult when not in fairways.
Greens are quick and can be hard to hold.
For $70 I'd play this course often if lived up here.
Go play it!
Fabulous day at Bayonet
It was a beautiful day, and the course was in excellent condition, the greens were in very good shape, other than being a little firm, making you have to adjust.
Overall, it was a 9 out of 10. To play a course like that, for that price, was a very good deal, indeed.
We were a threesome and had to wait some, but still finished in 4 hours.
Beautiful golf day with friends
Next one will be Blackhorse. Love playing your challenging two courses!
Great Course
What a beautiful Course. I would highly recommend this course.
Overplayed course. No tees for seniors
A course with the reputation these one has should have a full complement of tee boxes this cour has no gold tees for seniors for no reason whatsoever other than not appreciating that male seniors do not like playing from women’s tees!
Unsheathed beast
Bayonet is one of my favorite Monterey peninsula courses. Narrow fairways with firm greens and a pace to match. Greens weren't quite as fast as usual probably around a 9 vs normally 11/12. The marshall was friendly and tried to keep pace of play up. He broke the group in front of us up as they fell 3 holes behind and after that it was smoother sailing. Always enjoy the course and will be back soon
Great course, and weather
I play Bayonet as often as possible. Even on the holiday weekend, it was good. The course is always in great shape. The greens are quite challenging with tiers and some large breaks. Fairways are manicured and you are penalized for being in the rough. Great!
most excellent course
Great course ! Grass a little long. Overdue maintenance being done and cleaning up still being done.
