Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

Great layout, lots of strategic bunkers and very fast undulating greens.

Clean tee boxes and fairways. Firm and fast greens. Most with several levels which makes approach shots key. Layout with good variety: several downhill drives, some doglegs, one classic risk-reward 90 deg dog leg right. Overall great experience.

Lots of fairway bunkers. Greens undulate like a belly dancer and very fast!

Good test, requires all your shots and patience.

We played Pebble on Monday and Spanish Bay on Tuesday then decided to squeeze this round in before heading back to LA and we were so glad we did. The Pro Shop had great merchandise and the employees were all super friendly. They give you a small bag of range balls to hit included with your paid round, the range had mock greens with flag sticks to aim for making each practice shot more realistic, all the carts had bottled water which was a nice touch and the course played quite tricky with lots of fairway and green bunkers. The greens were hard so getting the ball to stick was tough making play somewhat challenging. And on just about each hole, you could see the beautiful bay and pacific ocean. I highly recommend you give Black Horse a try.

Loved the course conditions and the challenging layout. The greens are tricky. There are many undulations that must be taken into account. Every hole is a challenge. It is not an impossibly difficult course. It is has just the right amount of difficulty.

The course was in excellent shape on a beautiful sunny day. The greens were rolling true and quick and a test of skill to navigate the the undulating surfaces.

A pre-round meal was served by a friendly and efficient server. The food quite tasty and reasonably priced. Pace of play was excellent as we finished 18 holes in just over three and a half hours.

Definitely recommend this course.

Very slow greens. Course very rough including the rough was very long, one 9 almost unplayable. Staff maintenance cutting grass throughout the round including we started at 11:10 am.

Great price for 2 exceptional 18 hole courses, we did all 36 and it was great!

Love both these courses. Bayonet is my favorite but had a NCAA tournament that day. Greens are very firm but fast and smooth. If you shoot your handicap here your playing well.

The kindness of the staff to Anthony the bartender makes this a environment you want to come back again and again. There was a big tournament on the day I played and still I was treated like I was very important to them . I'm sitting hear writing this and I'm ready to go back again.

The layout of Black Horse is challenging to anyone who normally plays flatter, parkland courses (uphill, sidehill lies). And, the greens were extremely firm and fast, making this a challenging round. Pace of Play was great (we teed off 1/2 hour after a PGA professional qualifying tournament), which might account for that day's tough pin placements and green speeds.

Really enjoyed this course. Great views. Greens are super fast. Would definitely play again on a return trip.
