Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

I’ve been playing Black Horse and Bayonet since 1994 and always have liked it. However, yesterday I teed off first with two other gentlemen and we had a real nice time. My overall rating is a little better than I gave Bayonet because the course seemed to be in a little better shape. The greens were not quite as fast as Bayonet, but they were fast, but A nice shot landing slightly short on on the front of the green could still run over that back. It’s unfortunate that these two courses are no longer as beautiful as they once were, I think all the home construction and houses going up and mega tree removal takes away from much of the value overall.

This course should be better. The fairways barely had any grass (the rough was lush). When you keep the ball in the fairway, you expect you will get a decent lie. Not so. Not sure if they are reseeding the whole course or what but it was worse than most muni courses.

My husband and I were celebrating our Anniversary with a round of golf at Black Horse. We arrived an hour early and were greeted by a friendly starter who invited us to tee off early. We played by ourselves, enjoying the lovely views of Monterey Bay in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Greens are firm with multiple undulations making it difficult to stop the ball.

Fairways present tight lies. Fairways also have a lot of brown spots to them which is a sign of the times during this drought.

Course layout is a blast with multiple elevation changes to go along with the views of the Monterey Bay

Bayonet is a challenging course with beautiful views. It is tree-lined with big beautiful trees. The course is in very good condition. The only small complaint is the tee boxes, but overall, the course is in great shape. It is very challenging, firm fast greens, etc...

Black Horse is a little more wide open, but also quite challenging. Beautiful views. A little more affordable and easier to get on. Tougher course to walk as there are some bigger distances between tee and green.

Both courses are among the best in all of Northern California. Great value, not busy, quick round.

As an ex military owned course they cater to the active military. Without Golf Now the prices are high along with their membership. As a disabled veteran we don’t matter any Veteran. One employee said it’s under the Department of Defense which if true than all active and retired veterans without question get a special rate. Outside service beverage cart left at 1:30 pm when the place was packed with golfers. Lastly I booked for two golfers unfortunately the other golfers daughter was extremely sick I asked for a rain check and abruptly said no call Golf Now for a refund. I have paid double for one $178. I hope to here from Golf Now for a refund.

I had a cancellation on Golf Now for a player had a family member suck. I asked and before I finished call customer service at golf now which has no phone number. I rely on the beverage cart girl we teed off at 12:20 pm and at 1:30 pm the girl stated no food and she is done for the day. The golf course was packed with golfers considering a tournament was playing on the Bayonet course. I also found out it’s run by the DOD which as a Veteran there should be a different rate they said no point blank.

Beautiful views, bring your A game and have fun. Bring layers of clothes

A really nice place to play golf and the staff are super friendly too. The food and food service were perfect for a golf setting with fantastic ocean views. Well kept course and challenging.

Was somewhat disappointed in the conditions of the course. I was really excited to play Black Horse because I had heard so many good things about the course. Half of the tee boxes were in really bad shape. I should of went to Poppy Hills and paid $15 more.
