Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
About
Following a $13 million renovation at this 36-hole former military facility, Black Horse Golf Course was not only dramatically improved, but now comparable to its more revered sister course, Bayonet. Black Horse has long been considered the easier of the two, but that's not exactly a given now with the improvements and lengthening by golf course architect Gene Bates. Its serrated bunkers may be a little easier to get out of than the cavernous craters on Bayonet, and the fairways are little more generous, but Black Horse makes up for it with more undulating and difficult greens. The renovation also opened up the views to Monterey Bay for both courses. Trees were trimmed, and both courses now have an overall cleaner look, especially with the latest bentgrass turf from tee to green.

Played with a Practicing Pro
Had a great time after being paired up with a couple from Oregon and a pro, practicing for the Nor Cal Pro-Am the following day.
We used different tees but we all had fun.
Black Horse is one of my favorite places to play. Pros find it tough from the Blacks...but I can choose how much I want to challenge myself. I played whites so I could make more use of my new wedge...the course...no matter the length you choose is still fun and exciting.
Tough to walk as some tees are a good drive from the greens. the original layout had 45 holes, when he was resigned they took the best 36. But player sometime get confused on where to go. I found a foursome on our 18th tee who thought they were playing the 10th.
But that is easy to forgive,
Picturesque and challenging, very nice facility.
My wife and I enjoyed Blackhorse Golf course. It is very playable if you choose the right tees for your ability, The course was in good shape and the greens were tricky, but consistent. I would definitely play again
Ocean cool temps.
A combination of awesome golf course, friendly staff, well maintained course, complimentary water and challenging golf in an area where summer temps are 60-70 degrees when surrounding areas to the North hit 90's. Just Do It! You will not regret. Use Golf Now for better rate.

If I Could Play One Course...
If I could play one course every single week, this one would be near the top of the list. The course conditions on the day I played were some of the nicest conditions I have experienced over the course of the past year.
The staff is extremely friendly; the holes reward good shots and penalize poor shots, which is the way a golf course should play. I enjoyed my round and always look forward to the times I get to play at Bayonet/Black Horse.
Black Horse review
Bayonet & Black Horse are always in excellent condition and have a friendly/helpful staff. The layouts are fun and challenging at the same time. The deals that are often available on GolfNow make these courses the best deal in the Monterey area.
If you want a tougher, more challenging course, try Bayonet. While Black Horse is less difficult, it is a great layout that will still test the best golfer.
Course taking drought badly
Tees in horrible condition (i wonder why), fairways ok, greens are tough as usual, saw some damaged. play at front nine was fast, back was slow after catching up with several groups in front
First time to play Black Horse. I had a Blast. Great course layout, entertaining greens and manageable holes. Used all my clubs in being successful on the course. I'm certain on clear days the course offers magnificent views. I look forward to playing here again soon.
The new layout provides great challenges for all levels of players. Also, the views of the Monterey coast on some of the holes are just beautiful. Overall, a great course to play at.
Both Black Horse and Bayonet are great golf courses. Best value on the peninsula.
Great bang for the buck!
Blackhorse and BayonNet are the best values in the Monterey Area. The only downside is it seems to be the last place in that area to see the sun and wind can be a factor.
Fun
Both Bayonet and Black Horse are really fun and will challenge any player. The views are splendid. The price too is right.
Links-ish style
Stopped here while in the area for work. Awesome to get onto a PGA course for a great price. Every joke was amazing. The whole thing looks to be built on a sand dune - do felt very links style. Lots of bunkers and long well manacured fairways. Would never walk it. Was pushed a bit from behind, bug also got to play 3 holes with an assistant pro. All in all there are a lot of choices, but I'll be back.
Too slow
Decent course spoilt by too many beginners slowing the pace.
Still great
Great courses. Challenging shots.
Greens were perfect!!
Always fantastic.
Blackhorse in Monterey
What a beautiful course. Extremely challenging.
So close to the famous Pebble beach golf courses.
Pebble Beach too expensive. This is a must do golf course for far less. Ocean views here as well.
