Disappointing
We've played here for years. 8 years ago and earlier it was a great course. Like many courses in recent years it has declined in condition. The last several years it was still okay, but this Fall it was in very poor condition and unkept. Tee boxes completely burned out, greens showing bare mud spots, rough very high with infrequent mowing, etc. There really isn't anything positive to say for this place, other than the price was not insulting. Sorry Pelican Bay, but we won't be back
Great value
Course is still beat up a little from the storms but the price was right and a good time was had by all.
Poorly maintained
I don't recommend this course. The greens and tee boxes were poorly maintained and looked as if they were diseased. The rough was at least 4-6 inches tall this is NO exaggeration. As soon as the ball would go into the rough there was absolutely NO chance in finding it. I lost at least 15 balls due to the poorly maintained rough. Once I a made the turn to hole 10, I stopped to ask clubhouse pro what's up with the rough? He stated that there rough machine mower was down and they had only one for both North and South courses. I was playing there South course. FYI reviewers, I've played both courses 2 years ago and the roughs were just as tall then as they were now. If I were a maintenance superintendent I'd strongly recommend purchasing a second rough mower. Attention golfers if your wanting to play either pelican bay courses: Ask once calling to book a tee time when was the courses roughs CUT!
A Real Gem
I play 12 rounds a month on 8 different courses here in Volusia county and we play " The Pelican " at least every other week. In season , we play here at least once a week. The layout is great with four water carries, the greens are spotty but roll really nice around the cup placements. Hole 13 is a short par 5 with tree obstructions so hit an iron off the tee. All the par 3s are tough. The North course is also nice but we score well and have a good time at Pelican Bay South.
A Hot Deal worth the money
My son-in-law and I played this course under a Hot Deal booking for $8 each plus fees for 18 and a cart. The course was in reasonably good condition although some of the greens had barren spots. The course provides some challenges as there is water in play on probably half of the holes. We hit it at a good time and were able to complete our round in a little over 3 hours. All in all a good, inexpensive day on the links.
Ugly, but loveable
Minimal maintenance produced the ugliest greens and sand traps I've seen in a while. This sucks, because the course setup is very fun. The water placements really make you think about your shot before you shoot, and I don't know what makes me feel so special about shooting on an island green, but it was awesome. Staff was very friendly. Even with the lack of course maintenanceI had a blast; I feel like it would've been a perfect course to play in its prime.
I'm an amateur
I'm just learning the game. I've played about 5 different course this summer and this one has some of the more challenging holes-for me! Again, I'm just learning to play but for me, its challenging.
Golf at Pelican Bay
Our only issue was the booking process. My wife assumed that the courtesy booking fee of 9.96 would be deducted from the actual cost of the golfing but it wasn't. That increased the cost of golf more than expected but was still a reasonable value. It just should have been made more clear.
Course ok.... But
Like many people i prefer to warm up and hit a few range balls before a round. This course has no practice range. I wish that would have been mentioned in course description. Maybe that is not a big deal to some. But i would of likely selected a didferent course had i known
Customer Service is TOP NOTCH
The course itself is in need of a little TLC. I arrived early and was greeted by a wonderful man that really was personable and took care of me. I was able to play solo - first time ever and it was nice. But I quickly caught up to the threesome in front of me and began playing with the solo coming behind me. The greens were in pretty bad shape and everything was VERY wet - hasn't rained in days so I guess the sprinkler/drainage system isn't working as expected. I plan on playing this course again!
Poor course condition
Fairways were in less than poor condition and hard as concrete. Tees and greens in less than average shape.
Nice layout and interesting holes, it would be nice if they had more grass in fairways!
A step back in time.
The south course is a bit quaint and likable but in need of modernization. The restaurant menu included a hot dog and chips, the fairways could use a little water and a few of the greens needed grass. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Over all, a nice place to play and I enjoyed the afternoon.
Too much brush
I usually stay on the fairway but if a ball went even slightly off it was in brush that was thick & a little scary. I lost more balls than I lose in a year. I wasn't crazy about this course.
This course is challenging
This course has a lot of water hazards it is challenging course. It is a fun course and I would recommend it to all young through to Senior.
