South/North at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
South/North is one of three golf courses at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The facility is home to three distinct nines that form three different 18-hole combinations. Winding through thick forests of oaks and pines, Fernandina Beach Golf Club's South/North course offers a glimpse at native Florida wildlife. The South nine depends more on accuracy rather than distance while the north nine, the shortest in length of the three, features undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play throughout the golf course. Fernandina Beach's 27 unique holes are made even more appealing by the affordable rates and convenient proximity to Jacksonville and the beach.

Below average golf course
Not much to say, this course is below average. The greens are ok but the fairways and rée off, needs a lot of loving and tender care.
Weekend Getaway
We were in the area for our Grandson's 1st birthday and also a weekend getaway. We booked our round on Golf Now to ensure we got the preferred tee time. Bery pleasantly surpised with the course amd all the nice people that worked there. The course has 3 nines (North, South, and West) we played the West and South. The xourse layoit was great and the surrounding area was beautiful. Unfortunately the tee boxes and fairways were not very good. Most boxes were dirt and fairways were not very good either. However, the greens were very nice. The ball held the greens and rolled out to the hole nicely. We will play there again when we return to the area to visit our family.
Horrible T boxes
Most T boxes had little to no grass on them . 1 in particular had zero grass. It was like hitting a driver out of a bunker. I’d play this course for 10-15 dollars just to get some swings in but thats about it. There’s maybe 1 or 2 holes that are decent.
Fairways are ok, I’ve seen worse.
Nice layout needs help
Poorly maintained public course with good infrastructure needs lots of TLC. Fairways have limited playable grass. Traps are hard-packed with little sand. Greens are decent.
Staff was friendly and clubhouse is inviting.
Fernandina
I do like playing the course but there are many bare spots. Would be nice to have a little more grass.
Improving as the spring rains begin.
Greens were improved compared to a couple of months ago. Tee boxes need some attention.
Great layout and long challenging holes. Not bad for a municipal course,
Horrendous conditions
Absolutely the worst condition I've ever seen. Spend a few extra dollars and play somewhere else. I wouldn't play again if it was free.
Poor planning
There are 3, 9 hole courses. I paid for 18 holes. There was no ranger and pace was atrociously slow. Worst part was of the 3 nines, one was being loaned to a car show and two of the holes were “converted” to par 3s. This all the while a perfectly good 9 holes was closed. After 2 1/2 hrs and 9 holes, I left. Pitiful
Cow Pasture
I can’t believe that the City of Fernandina have failed it’s taxpayers obscenely on managing this course. What a tragedy.
fernandina beach
typical muni, could use some tlc. some greens have different type of grass growing. some traps have little sand
Ok for the price
I probably played it in the worst time of year. The Bermuda grass fairways were brown with lots of dead areas. The greens were brown but rolled true and were very fast.
Not a serious golfers course
This course is the definition of a muni!!! Some tee boxes have NO grass. Fairways were bare and dry. Greens were bad. It’s a shame the south course has a challenging layout but just terrible conditions. This is a BEFINNERS course only or if your just messing around and drinking the whole time.
First time and probably last if improvements not made
First let me say it’s mid February and I understand conditions are not in peak season. That said tee boxes are virtually all sand. Fairways are extremely spotty and bare and not much grass at all. I thought high 40’s was way to much of a price for conditioning of golf course. I will say the gentleman in the pro shop was VERY friendly and helpful with where everything was and directions of each sides tee box was located. This could be a very nice course but not as it is today. An EXTENDED work over is MUCH needed and soon. Hopefully money will be spent to improve here quickly. I recommend staying away until improvements are made. Up to you but if you go now I believe you will be disappointed with conditions at surrounding courses being much better. I understand these courses charge more but high 40’s for here - now - is not worth it. Best of luck if you choose to give it a chance. Layout is fine but conditions are not. God Bless.
