The Amelia River Club is located on Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville and within minutes of the historic town of Fernandina Beach. Renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth greens, sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sable Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles.

This par 72 track, designed by Tom Jackson, plays to a yardage of 6,823 from the back tees. It's pristine condition features well manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge all skill levels. This course is unique in character and is a treat to play.

The Amelia River consists of 18 holes of challenging golf where ball control and accuracy are keys to a great game. The fairways are wide and open, giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish links course on some holes and a narrow tree lined experience on others. The 13th hole is a good example of the course’s challenges. This long par five runs along the border of the Fernandina Beach Airport and is a strategic three shot hole. Too long and left at lay up and you will have to deal with a water hazard. The wind can play havoc with this hole as it reminds one of an open links style design. In contrast #9 is a tree lined par four with very little room for error and includes a forced carry over Alligator Creek.

The signature 17th hole is a par three surrounded by water demanding an accurate shot to the island green which closely resembles another very famous golf hole in our area! The final hole ends at the edge of the Amelia River and its expansive tidal marsh.

Good Course - Questionable Value

The Amelia River Club is a solid course that is in good condition. There is nothing particularly notable about the layout, club house or practice area. It is a course I would consider worth up to $75 for a round. An amount that was easy to obtain 2 years ago, with golfnow deals running as low as $55. However, in 2025 management decided to push the price up to a level which might well seem reasonable given the laughably over priced courses on Amelia Island, but IMO is way above what a round of golf there is worth. As a reference point, the Lakes Course at Laurel Walker state park in Waycross, GA is in equal if not better shape, is a more interesting and challenging layout and can be played through golfnow almost any day for $45 or less. Queens Harbor is another comparable course which similarly has a more interesting and challenging layout that can be played through golfnow for $55-$65. I would and do recommend the course for the fair price of $75 or less, but not at the rates they now believe represents a level of value that IMO just isn't there.

4 Stars – Great Conditions & Staff, Layout Just OK

Really enjoyed my round at The Amelia River Club. The pro shop staff were excellent—friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. Caught the beverage cart twice, and she was just as friendly, which is always a plus.

Course conditions were strong across the board. Fairways had tight lies but stayed soft, so rollout was limited, but they were consistent. The greens were perfect—smooth, unmarked, and rolling at an ideal speed.

The layout is solid but not particularly memorable. The highlight is definitely the par‑3 17th over the water, a great-looking hole. Plenty of alligators and local birdlife add to the Florida vibe.

My only complaint was the GPS system. Lots of restricted zones that didn’t seem tied to anything visible, so I found myself checking the screen more than I’d like. A few signs would make a big difference.

Overall, a well‑maintained course with great people and excellent greens. Worth playing—just not the most exciting layout.

Amelia river review

Course have a great layout, but the conditions were not that great especially the roof and areas around the Green. In my opinion, it’s overpriced for the course conditions, but I must say the course has great character.

Great Day

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Tee boxes and greens were nearly perfect, as were most of the fairways. There were some fairways that had some bare spots, but considering the hard freeze they experienced, they recovered pretty well.

I would definitely play this beautiful, fun course again!

The Best Option on Amelia Island

Played it in near perfect weather and the course, overall, was in great shape. The greens were a bit slow, but very smooth and consistent. It is overpriced, but the best public option on the island.

OK course

Nice course to try but if you have difficulty getting under the ball on very shortly trimmed fairways. This course will be challenging as their fairways have super short grass. Near the green you can putt it up 50’ out. The greens were very inconsistent, some were slow and others with the ball never stopping. Difficult to deal with but manageable. .

Beautiful Course, cost more than it should

The layout is great but for$150 it should be in much better shape and the greens should be faster. The people that work there are friendly helpful and the food is good.

Good Course, pricey

Like playing this course when in town but it is a bit pricey. If you reserve after 2pm they give you free range balls, otherwise you pay for them. The course was not lush & green but they have had a cold winter & not much rain. Greens are challenging.
