The Amelia River Club is located on Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville and within minutes of the historic town of Fernandina Beach. Renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth greens, sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sable Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles.

This par 72 track, designed by Tom Jackson, plays to a yardage of 6,878 from the back tees. It's pristine condition features well manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge all skill levels. This course is unique in character and is a treat to play.

The Amelia River consists of 18 holes of challenging golf where ball control and accuracy are keys to a great game. The fairways are wide and open, giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish links course on some holes and a narrow tree lined experience on others. The 13th hole is a good example of the course’s challenges. This long par five runs along the border of the Fernandina Beach Airport and is a strategic three shot hole. Too long and left at lay up and you will have to deal with a water hazard. The wind can play havoc with this hole as it reminds one of an open links style design. In contrast #9 is a tree lined par four with very little room for error and includes a forced carry over Alligator Creek.

The signature 17th hole is a par three surrounded by water demanding an accurate shot to the island green which closely resembles another very famous golf hole in our area! The final hole ends at the edge of the Amelia River and its expansive tidal marsh.

Halfway house

Clubhouse food and beverage area is not organized and setup to handle golfers making the turn. Very slow service. No pre-made food options. And $12 for a plain hotdog with no condiments included is a ripoff. Final insult was staff accusing our group of slow play. Our foursome played 9 holes in 2 hours. We were only late for back nine because the food service was so slow. Do yourself a favor and bring your own refreshments

Great gem in Amelia if you find a GN tee price

Great course. In excellent condition. A few tee boxes needed some work and were sanded but overall the greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were perfect. Note: bring your gnat spray. They were awful. Normally it has some wind to help with that, but not the day we played. I love this course, but you have to find a GolfNow tee time price to make it worth playing. Prices of Amelia courses have gone up ever since the Omni took over Oak Marsh and remodeled it. Love the course but it’s still not worth $100+ green fees. But a GolfNow price is worth it if you find it.

Good Course

Amelia River is always a favorite when I’m in town. The course is playable and forgiving for an average golfer. The course is usually very well maintained, but perhaps I caught it during a cycle of maintenance. The fairways and greens were not the pristine shape that I remembered from previous years. While I've seen the course in better shape, I will certainly be back. The staff and off-course amenities are excellent.

Great experience

We both were extremely pleased with the course conditions, in late May and the layout. We’d certainly enjoy playing again on our next visit to Fernandino beach.

Try not to pay the full price

It is a wonderful 18 hole golf course. Generous fairways and large greens. It has an interesting layout, that is challenging. I was paired with other players, that were very delightful to play with. Pace of play was above average. Golf carts were very nice with comfortable seats and GPS.

I couldn't consider this course to be a premium course. Try to find a deal, then play. I am certain you will have a great time.

Going downhill (even without hills!)

So disappointed in this third time out on Amelia River. It's been a destination for us when we travel down to Georgia's Gold Coast. Even the first visit, at $150, was taken without too much pain as we played the pristine fairways and greens. This time, however, even with the "hot deal" of $130, we paid about 3 x too much. Dry, spotty fairways. Chewed up tee boxes. Chunky remnants of aerated greens (which should have dropped the price). Worn-out holes long past their replacement time. And slow, slow, slow. Time to pick a new first-day spot.

Nice layout, good conditions

Two price tiers.... in state and out of state is bit overkill for a public course. Perhaps give t time preference to local residents.

Satisfying Golf Experience

I went on as a single. The very nice staff were welcoming and paired me with other golfers. The greens were true and many were challenging. The tee boxes were all great. The spell of dry weather has taken a bit of a toll on the fairways, but they were fine.

The range is equipped with Trackman technology. Very nice.

The biggest complaint was that we’re in Florida and there’s no water to drink on course. Fill up at beginning and at the turn is the key.

Nice, but

Nice course, no houses, in pretty good condition though the greens were slower than they looked like they should be (looked like 11, rolled like 8, but true). Airport down one side might be a little distracting for some. Design is good, but not very memorable. Nothing stands out to me. Only 18th green has any real "view" and even that is a couple hundred yards away through trees. Everything else is pretty standard Florida course with oaks, pines, and ponds. Fake mounds to get around the flat terrain. Glad I came, wouldn't drive an hour + again, certainly wouldn't pay the $200 they often charge. Good value at $90-$120. Staff was friendly and helpful.
