South/North at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
South/North is one of three golf courses at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The facility is home to three distinct nines that form three different 18-hole combinations. Winding through thick forests of oaks and pines, Fernandina Beach Golf Club's South/North course offers a glimpse at native Florida wildlife. The South nine depends more on accuracy rather than distance while the north nine, the shortest in length of the three, features undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play throughout the golf course. Fernandina Beach's 27 unique holes are made even more appealing by the affordable rates and convenient proximity to Jacksonville and the beach.

Get what you pay for
Course was in better shape than it was last time I played 4-5 months ago. With that being said, dont expect immaculate fairways and/or greens and such. But for the price the course was in good shape. We were told that course was busy when we teed off, but had hardly no wait anywhere on course, especially on our 2nd 9.
The fairways are sand with a scattering of grass. The practice range has mats. The sand traps are hard mud. There was little water available on the course. The restroom light was so dim I could barely see.
There was no one patrolling the course to tell the people who had no course etiquette to speed up or let people behind them play through. We waited on each hole for quite awhile and there was at least one open hole in front of the ones in front of us. The player behind us finally went around to cut in front of the slow men but and single player stayed and sat as long as we.
The staff, woman and man in golf shop and the starter were all really nice. Nice golf shop and looked to be a nice little bar and restaurant. Nice locker room too.
Disappointed
My son and I planned to play 18 holes. We were on vacation and also rented clubs. We quit after 9. The course was in rough shape. Fairways in bad condition and greens were in consistent. Same situation with rough. I noticed my rentals did not include a wedge while on the course. I should have checked before I started the round !
Would not recommend playing there again.
Needs Course Care
The course is in bad shape. Tee boxes were mostly dirt, fairways were spotty at best, primary rough was horrible and balls were very difficult to find, the greens were also spotty and it appeared that they were punched a few weeks ago and not grown in well at all. Having said that the entire course staff (Pro-Shop, Starter, Restaurant) very professional, friendly and helpful
Needs some attention
The greens were in good shape, however, even with the abundant rain in the last 4-6 weeks the fairways are sparse, many of the tee boxes were not more than sand and dirt. Some holes are unfairly tight on the South course.. ridiculously so!!
Nice Course
We played this course twice while staying on the Island. Nice course and an even better price. Get out early to beat the crowds. Great new practice facility. Will definitely be back.
Course needs work
I’ve played here before, but the course has fallen in quality.
Fun round of golf
I was pleasantly surprised! I assume like most municipal courses that money is tight. From what I saw and experienced this staff is getting the most out of what money it receives. Not in perfect condition but very, very playable with no major issues. I think most golfers would enjoy a round here.
greens are in good shape, but tees and fairways not
every hole had 2 groups waiting on boxes while a group was in fairway and another on the green. and they wouldn't open up the south course. waited 45 minutes to tee off at the turn. greens were in great shape. but tee boxes and fairways were full of weeds and looked bad.
that being said it was still a nice play for the money.
after we checked out the toptracer driving range.
I could have spent the day in there. wow that alone is worth the money and the time.
Bad choice
Poorly maintained
Lots of clover and sparse grass in fairways
ROBBERY
This course looks like a cow pasture with greens. Blaming the storm is not acceptable because the issues were caretaking in nature. I would not play this course again.
Worst course in America
Where do I start - first, could not make a tee time on the phone but only on Golf Now. Staff clearly not aware of policies and attending to island residents.
Upon arrival, we were directed to the South nine. There are theee 9-hole layouts and they sent everyone to the same tee?? Started almost 15 minutes late.
Pace of play was brutal…not the fault of the threesome in front of us, just packed with slow and inconsiderate players and NO Marshall anywhere.
Finally - conditions (if you could call it that) were just above pasture quality. Every tee box a weed pit, dead spots through the fairways, and the absolute worst greens I’ve ever played.
I get it - it’s a muni, money is tight. I love golf but this place deserves to be turned into more condos. Save your money and go anywhere else…or the beach.
