West/South at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course

About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

very poor course conditions
The course is in very bad shape .. I don't know which is worse the fairways or the greens. Other public courses in the area are not=r much better. Tough winter I guess
Tale of two nines
We played the South 9 first, and it is in very bad shape. More bare ground and mud than winter kill grass. It is January, so there was no expectation that conditions would be lush, it was no good. To compound this, the pace of play was very slow. We made the turn and started on the West 9, and it was like we entered a new world. Conditions were very good, given it is January in north Florida, and everyone else in front of us must have only played 9 holes, as we had the course to ourselves. Looking over at the North 9, it looked similar to the West 9, both in terms of conditions and number of players. So, if you going to play, it would pay to know what series of nines you will be assigned to play.
Course continues to deteriorate every year., including fairways, cart paths and outside restrooms.

Horrendous Conditions
There was no practice range, the turf conditions from tee to green are the worse I’ve experienced anywhere. The cart path had large chunks of asphalt missing every few feet. Signage was missing. Folks in the ProShop were very nice and friendly.
Given those conditions, it was way overpriced despite being the cheapest course on the Island.

Great!
Great course! Highly recommended! Staff nice and that greens are very nice!

Thank you so much for your 5-star review! We are so glad to hear you enjoy our course and wonderful staff. We look forward to having you back in the future.
Horrible service
No range, no tee times, no toppings for hotdogs, one 9 closed, waited 20 min behind 4 groups of singles and doubles! Get a starter and make people golf together instead of saying all tee times are booked! The pro or golf club manager is extremely rude and acted like he didn’t care what you thought. You should listen to your customers and not talk when they are giving you advice! Fairways and rough are horrible and the greens are way too fast for a city course.
This could be a really nice place but you gotta treat your paying customers with respect! I’d much rather drive to ga and play on the navy base where everything works and is available to use!

Nice winter treat
Bright sunny day with a bit of chill. Nice smooth round 3.5 hours. Greens were fast but got a tip from grounds crew to watch for speed.

Thank you so much for your 5-star review! We are happy to see you enjoyed our course. We value your feedback, and hope to see you back in the future.

Getting there, but not yet
The entire course is getting there, but still has a way to go. Driving range and putting practice area still closed, but you can see progress of renovations. The North course is still closed, and their traffic is too much for number of daily golfers. It is SLOW PLAY!! The staff is nice and atmosphere teaches some patience. I plan to try it again in a few months.
