Why open after 7 months of improvements when you are not ready
See example of tee box. For six months they have been closed making improvements to greens and tee boxes. I guess you needed my $50 per round in order to make payroll. The greens were so full of sound it was like putting in a cat litter box. The parking lot is still broken all to pieces with not one ounce of landscaping. When you advertise a grand opening with all the improvements one would think you would want to make a good impression. I will not be back at that price.
Good Value Jax course
Course in really good condition. Recent rains have thickened up the grass. Ball sits up nicely in the fairway. Greens aerated 3 weeks ago. They've recovered and roll smoothly. A tad slow but certainly acceptable. Bunkers have hard, compact sand, but that's from recent rains. Medium challenge. More character holes on the back 9. Great value for our late morning round. Great pace of play.
Can't recommend at this time
I used to play this course frequently. The folks are nice. The course design is interesting. The greens fees are reasonable. Unfortunately, at this time, the course is in very poor condition. The greens are bad and the fairways are very spotty. If the course conditions improve, I will be back...but it looks like it will take a while. Too bad.
Rude pair
Friendly staff from bag drop to the starter. Greens were sanded which they had done a good job of it. But no one told use that there were punched and sanded kind of nice to know...
I always Golf with my wife. The pair oh guys we we partnered with were rude from tee box to green ... pass my wife’s tee box by start there cart in middle of her back swing put out in front of her. Just flat out rude even after we said several times were back here..
Find another course
Parking lot huge potholes, cart guy ok, counter guy informative, matts on range ok, painful slivers from trap rake, teed off a few minutes early. 1st fairway ok for middle of February, but stay in the fairway, under the trees is wasteland and miles of roots. Carts cant last long, paths are concrete and each section is a different height. so drive slowly. Aprons are come & go, time of year?? Dont think so, just poor. The big problems are the greens!!!! Dead, missing, moss, just gone. A few on the back nine were ok but so slow vs the dead ones, putting was a farce!! When you have fun golfing its usually because the greens are pure, when putting is impossible you simply endure it and move to a better course which is the case here. Go to a better course!!!
Overall conditions
This course has a nice layout and could be really nice. Many of the tees were in poor to bad condition. The fairways could be better. Some of the greens were in good shape, but some had some lumpiness to them. Overall I would give this course a B- rating for conditions, and some holes are more a C+.
It’s too bad it isn’t better.
Julington Creek GC
The course is really run down. This use to be my go to course to play.
Greens were at its worst. Bunkers were like mud. Restrooms in clubhouse were terrible.
Sidewalks are caving in. Nothing but dirt outside of the fairway
Not worth the money
They were late sending us off on our scheduled tee time because they stack groups on top of each other. No beverage cart on a saturday and the greens are garbage . Don’t hit the ball into the rough, there is not grass just roots and hard pan. Not worth the time or money.
Has gone downhill
Have not played at Julington Creek since last winter when I thought it was in great shape. Greens are in bad shape now with no warning when booking that they were just maintained.
And they let a fivesome out in front of us. The group had no clue about time management and absolutely no rangers maintaining pace of play.
Will not be back.
Call before you book a tee time
Be sure to call before you book your tee time. They did not post a warning of any kind about the greens. It was completely sand. Useless to even putt on. Course layout was nice but would not book again without calling. They are suppose to warn players of these conditions prior or it’s a waste of money.
Stayed away for a reason
First time here in about a year, now I remember why. 11:12 tee time, and got off close to 11:30. 6 minute intervals lead to back ups right away. Pace never picked up, and we waited on every shot. Nearly 5 1/2 hour round. I wouldn't have minded so much as it was a nice Sunday afternoon, but the greens were horrendous. I can honestly say I play 2-3 times weekly in the Jacksonville area, and we vary our courses all of the time. Julington Creek was removed from our rotation a year ago for the same thing. We gave them another try, and nothing changed. Fix your greens!
Julington Creek Golf Club
Always enjoy this track but right now the greens are s bit rough. Not much grass and very fast. Fairways are in good shape.
Wonderful Staff and Facility
What makes this course so wonderful is the friendly staff. I enjoy the course and the people I've met while there. Always friendly and inviting to join if I catch up.
Slow, slow, slow
5 hour round. Up side course is looking better. Greens are improving but not great. Just makes for a long day at that pace and hard to get in a rhythm.
Save your time and money. Stay Away.
From the moment we got ready to hit on the first tee, we should have known this was going to be a rotten day.
Before our first tee shot was struck, someone walked up to the box and said “ I am playing with the group in front of you. Do you mind if I hit?”
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the starter actually seemed to think it was ok. We looked at him with puzzled faces until one of the other players came back and picked him up.
The next 6 hours of my life (which I will never get back), was spent waiting on dead tee boxes, or putting on grassless greens.
We saw one ranger out there and, even though he agreed the pace of play was unacceptable, he did nothing to push the group ahead of us.
The only positive thing I can say about the place is that the woman at the clubhouse bar was very friendly. Which was great because we did not see a single beverage cart on the course at any point during the round.
The fact that they have the nerve to charge $50+ to play here is the icing on the cake.
Even if it were free to play, I’ll never play here again. Ever.
