Birkdale Golf Club

Got a deal on TeeOff and paid $36. On a Friday. Great!! But that’s where the fun ends. The greens are in terrible shape with sand on some and large areas of no grass on most. So between the grass loss and the hundreds of unfixed ball marks, putting is just a guess I don’t know how they could go so bad so fast but it’s bad enough that we won’t play there any more this year. They should pay us to play a course in such bad shape!

We enjoyed a ice round. Didn’t play well but it was not the courses fault. Nice mix of challenges.

I am new to the area. Lots of courses in Virginia. I hope they are all this fun. We will be coming back.

We had a 11:48 tee time and was ready to go. At 11:40 the pro told us to wait till a threesome went in front. They were the 11:30 group but were late-they checked in at 11:42. Then it turns out they all were the slowest non golfers I have ever been behind. Obviously they didn’t know the basic golf etiquette and never waived us through. We waited EVERY SINGLE SHOT while there were 2-3 holes open in front of them. Took 4 3/4 hours RIDICULOUS

Nice course, decent fairways and greens were in great shape. A couple were challenging but fun to play. Fully enjoyed the day and this course!

value for $ and conditions left me a little disappointed

Teebox grass was bad on certain holes

Rough thin / undifferentiated - not challenging

Fairways were hard and thin

greens were fine to good

Course has potential with the layout. But for that price, I'd expect better conditions in May.

Pace of play was good.

Had a 1:13 tee time and got to tee off a couple minutes early. Pace of play wasn’t bad but it was a busy day on the course so naturally a tad slow here and there. Course layout was good. Surrounded by lots of houses so be careful out there!

Pro shop guys were super nice and helpful.

Large thing of range balls was $9 dollars. Little steep for range balls but it is what it is.

Carts were nice. Greens were good for it being pretty hot and no rain for a week.

Had three bunker shots. One bunker was hard as a rock, other two were nice and soft.

Would go back again! Thanks for having us.

The course is in great shape. The greens were great - fairways, etc. were all in great shape.

but the pace of play was awful. I've always heard how and it is at Birkdale but only played there one other time. The last time It was crazy slow that my 3 some combined with the 3 some in front to make a 6 some and we were still waiting on every tee box.

I figured today being as hot as it was that it wouldn't be too bad. By the 3rd hole there were 4 groups on the hole. It took 1:15 to play 3 holes. The marshal came and skipped the offending group ahead 2 holes that slightly cleared up the log jam for a few holes before it came right back. 3 groups on #9, 4 groups on #10. I don't know what the problem is, but it's a complaint I've read before. I don't have any intention on going back. it's a shame because I really like the course.

Course was excellent, best shape by far in year's. Pace was quick, 3.5 hours.

The course is well put together. I paid $79 for two golfers with a cart. There were a few areas were the sod was soggy but it was on a par three. The tee boxes are well used but that's expected. The overall play was great. My partner could only play the front 9. I played the back 9 by myself. The course was overall amazing. I made the mistake of not bringing a water or buying one at the clubhouse. I assume due to covid there is no "cart girl" or water coolers throughout the course. Overall I will be back! Great course, great price and layout. if you're looking for a casual game, or to entertain a business partner this course is great!

Basic great course that has just been run down overtime and could probably be in better shape if they could pump the cash into it.

They charge for range balls and the course is in ok shape. Definitely well worth every penny of the $45 we paid for the round vs. the $67 typical fee.

The club house did an outstanding job of controlling pace of play; probably best public round i have ever played. In addition everyone seemed to be super respoectful of the course, the greens were in good shape with most ball marks repaired. The turn was good and menu was pretty good.

Way better than most public courses for the price, it chaps me everytime i have to buy practice balls, so that would be an easy fix, but i bet that is a huge profit center. All in all fun course, fun layout, will definitely be going back.

I like the course it just needs alot of help, its really run down.
