Desert Pines Golf Club
About
Desert Pines Golf Club is often referred to as "The Pinehurst" of Las Vegas. It offers a Carolina sandhills experience, yet is conveniently located just minutes from downtown or the Strip. This Dye design features thousands of mature pine trees lining the well-groomed fairways where white sand bunkers protect large, undulating, bent grass greens. Because of the large number of pine trees, often times this course is cooler than other courses in the heat of the summer. Although there are no forced carries, water comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes.

Great course
Great course and very well kept. A little narrow if you like challenges. Overall a great experience.
Favorite Course!
Have not played course in 2 years. I was not disappointed!! Love this course! It was in great shape; beautifully manicured greens & fairways; friendly staff. Will definitely be back soon!
lovely course ~~!!
So nice
everything is really fine
Must have course
Excellent Condition
I enjoyed the course very much. No houses around the course.
Hard Course to evaluate - depends on golfing ability
This course is hard for me to review. Free range balls and no GPS. It is in very good shape and short and packed into a small acreage. Fairways are tight. It is easy to fade or draw into an adjoining fairway. Fairways do tend to funnel a shot back towards the middle. Fairways and greens are VERY undulating - everywhere. Water and/or blind shots on many holes. Some sidehill, uphill, downhill lies are guaranteed. For a high handicapper this is a very tough short course. Greens are unbelievably fast and undulating. Three or more putts are easy to encounter. It was not hard to lag putt and have the ball come right back and/or severely break due to the severe undulations. A low handicapper can pick what part of the green to shoot for and one or two putt. I'm a high handicapper and an average putter and will never play this course again. It was no fun for me - way too many putts.
Decent local course
It is not a resort experience. But decent layout and condition and good value. If you are looking for Vegas wow, look elsewhere. But if you want a decent round at a good price, this works.
Course Has Gone Way Downhill
Played this course many times over the last 7 or 8 years - always in the rotation for courses to play in Vegas. Very disappointed this year - greens were in terrible condition, beat up, burnt out - nothing close to what they've been in the past. The rough was burnt out in many places and the whole look was scruffy compared to previous years. Even the carts were scruffy - looked like they hadn't been washed in a month!
Small and narrow but fun course
This course is fun but would have to shoot straight all the time. The course feels like its confined in a 4-5 block radius so very tight and narrow fairways. It's designed well for those not wanting to let it rip!
Straight shots required
This course offers challenges to all skill levels. Straight shots are a premium as some fairways are narrow as well as lined with bunkers. Being my first time playing took a few holes to get used to how the greens broke. This course offers golf in the heart of the city and while playing you sometimes forget that. Enjoyed the views that where offered on several holes and recommend this course in you have the opportunity.
A great option in Las Vegas
Given the abundance of golf courses in the Las Vegas area, making a choice on where to spend your precious time (and money) can certainly be difficult. With that said, I was highly pleased with my selection of Desert Pines. The course layout is playable and picturesque with views of the surrounding mountains and even a few glimpses of the vegas strip. The course was exactly what I picture when I think of a "desert" course. Lush fairways and greens give way to dry desert floor. Don't get me wrong, the course designer added a few well placed lakes to keep things interesting (and claim a few arrant tee shots). As with most (all) Las Vegas courses, wind IS a factor, but that is all part of the experience in my opinion. Practice facility is more than adequate although you'll find yourself hitting off of mats (this a bigger deal to some than others). The course was in perfect condition when I played, but that is, of course, not guaranteed. Although it's certainly not what I would consider cheap, Desert Pines is one of the more affordable courses near the strip, and is worth every penny.
Overall good course close to strip distances are way off
We bought a yardage book and the numbers didn't match the tee boxes. When we went back in after the round to tell them we wanted our money back on the book (which I can say I have never done or felt the need to do) they said that the book was accurate but the stones on the tee boxes were not.... I would think they would tell you when you made a point to purchase the book. The guy in the clubhouse was a jerk about the whole thing and refused to refund. The starter was great and even apologized when we left. To bad the guy in the club house ruined an overall good experience.
Worth it
Got a golfnow deal to make non resident rates reasonable. We rented clubs as well and the rental rate was reasonable too. Clubs were older Callaway but decent.
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful at every interaction. Course is surprisingly challenging and reminds me of a links style with more trees.
Don't be turned away by the dicey neighborhood, the course doesn't reflect the surroundings and is in great condition.
A Windy Day
Course was in very good shape. Narrow but not too long. A nice resort course to play when traveling.
Rental clubs were in decent shape.
Everything good til the 15th
Great staff, great range and course layout were exceptional. Problem came on the 15th hole where we were backed up 3 groups. We literally played the 13th and 14th again and groups were still there. I would still recommend this course. I think it was just a mishap
in from out of town, found course through Golf Now app.
