Las Vegas National Golf Course

About
A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.
Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.
Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.
It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.
"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

Drenched in history
Starting with staff friendliness, these guys are at the top of their game. Everyone greeted with us with a very warm welcome. Felt like I belonged.
The proshop and dining area is worth coming early for. This course is drenched in history. Spend 15 - 30 min and read some of the history. Great history on Vegas golf.
The course layout is interesting and will keep everyone on their toes. Not extremely well manicured and the greens were a bit slow and furry. Mild elevation change and green undulation was moderate. We did face some tough pin locations tucked behind bunkers. The fairways were green with some wet spots (at 7AM).
We were a two some playing behind a foursome so I had some time to read the local historical landmarks. Very interesting and fascinating. I wish I had more time. Oh, the houses are nothing to brag about as they're all over 50 - 70 years old. Must've been a glorious place back the day.
Off the strip
Fantastic option as a alternative to Bali Hai or Wynn but a different experience as it is a true Municipal course with a parkland style. For the price, it’s a great play and the course has some challenge but very fair and fun.
Prepare to be disappointed and walk away with a headache!
I was excited to play this course, especially due to its extensive history.
Unfortunately, while my score was solid, this was possibly the worst round of golf I've participated in so far.
We arrived early, ate some food at the very reasonably priced and tasty restaurant and then warmed up. Free balls, that you have to annoyingly get from the starter but all was great. The course looked great, and I was really looking forward to the round. Just pleasant.
1st three holes were great, then the Airplanes started flying above. Little did we know that this course is directly under the airport flight path and WOW it is loud. I walked away with a headache. I didn't have a shot after that without a plane either landing or taking off during my backswing.
We had a solid pace of play, then someone decided to cut a few holes and then slowed down everything. Waiting 10 minutes to tee off, while planes are flying 100 ft above your head is just not fun and made the round even worse. I tried to talk to the Host, who did not care one bit. Just looked at me as though I had 2 heads, didn't say a word and just kept driving.
The greens looked in great shape and were well maintained, but they were slow. Also, if you see a break its not there.
Overall, if you are from out of town, play somewhere else. It was $150*2 and no better than my local track that I pay $30 for. Walked away feeling as though I've been ripped off and just a level of disappointment i've not felt before.
I would not recommend anyone play here. Siena was great, Arroyo was in terrible condition.
18 years later
Woke up to 30 mile an hour winds but decided to play anyway because I traveled all the way from Maryland. I made a tee time as a single and the other threesome no showed. I played the first nine holes by myself and then join Ed two members for the back nine. We finished in three hours and five minutes. Course is in much better shape in terms of grass , especially around the greens than Desert Pines. The members explain to me the problem with the trash it seems disappointing that no one can figure out how to stop that trash for accumulating in the rivers. Was also surprised to notice that most of the housing has deteriorated in the 18 years since I was there. The members told me they just learn to have to ignore it. I would recommend this course especially with the outrageous prices of most of the popular courses in Las Vegas
LV National GC
I've played several courses around Las Vegas, Henderson and Pioute. LV National is my favorite as I prefer classic 60s style course layout. I will definitely be returning here. I did not have a chance to try the restaurant. From the staff to the carts it was a good experience.
Dated Course
Although this course has historical significance and is located in a very old part of Las Vegas, that doesn’t offset the dated & bland layout, along with being over priced. A stream runs through the middle of the course littered with very unattractive trash (“very smelly” mattresses, sofas, tents, etc.) overwhelming any beauty of what it could be. Also, playing on a Sat., there were times we had 3 groups on a tee waiting to tee off……saw the “host” cart one time with no apparent marshaling effort. I will not return
Where is the ranger?
If they had a ranger they could have addressed a group with 7 men on a tee box. These guys drove their carts nearly on the greens, spraying balls every direction and no sense of ready golf—absolutely clueless! There was a 2 hole gap separating this group and the group they were to follow. Consequently we had a 4.5+hour round and this historically hasn’t been an issue. When the tee sheet is full it’s even more important to enforce no more than 4 in a group.
Must play this course
First off, the weather was perfect!!! Mark and Barb in the bar area were super friendly. Have Barb make you a bloody marry. Outstanding. The course was in fantastic shape. Really wish golfers would fix divots on the greens. That's my only complaint. But that's not the courses fault. Speed of play was just a touch slow, but I'm on vacation. Will definitely play this course again when I come back.
Good course
If.you have not played this course I would recommend it at least once. The cost is a little high but still below most of the Las Vegas Courses.
Perfect course for buddy trip
Short course that requires some accuracy and a variety of shot shapes. Long par 3s and plenty of false fronts. Hole 1 is simply beautiful. An opening par 5 that easily tricks you into writing down 8. Plenty of room off the tee to hit somewhat wayward drives but the rough penalizes. The rough isn’t deep, the grass seems to grow horizontally vice vertically. Greens are fun. Trying to match speed and break was a head scratcher. Some tee boxes have placards that share historical moments, great for photos. Only way to lose a ball is to hit it into the water and 15-20 minutes from MGM section of the Strip.
Got to course no putting green availablefront nine closed for seeding, had to play back nine twice .not offered any other chose.A bit disappointing
VERY SLOW Play
I was disappointed at the green... when I played there in December 2020, the course was in much better condition, the green was nice. Yesterday most of the greens were diseased, lumping, bumping, not very nice. Also, there were no course marshal, the starter let a single player out after 2 sets of 4somes (buddies), and before our group which was a 3some and there was 2 some behind us. Instead of putting the single with our group or the 2some behind us, the course was held up every hole. one set of 4some let him played thru, but now he's in between the 2 foursomes, holding up people. Finally at the turn around, after the 9th hole, the 2some behind us left. It was also very hot out and the cart girl last call was before 3pm, when we were only at the 7th hole, due to the hold up.... there need to be a marshal out there or the starter needs to pair up people properly. It was NOT a fun afternoon, waiting and waiting after every hole. I tried to called the pro shop and NO ONE answer the phone.
The old courses in good shape
This was my first time playing here, the course is in good condition fairways are very nice greens don’t hold well but do putt true. There is actually sand in the bunkers and rakes it was strange to play with those open again but this course was a lot of fun and the staff was awesome.
Wonderful Course
All I can say is this is one of the best courses in Vegas pace of play was fast we were done at exactly 4 hours very friendly staff and wonderful restaurant maybe the cart girl could have came around more often only saw her one time but lots of character lots of history overall just a really fun course greens were in great condition for February. Always love to come back and play this course. Felt sorry for the girl selling the hotdogs at the snack bar somebody turned her in for not wearing her mask properly and she was not having a very good day because of that not sure why people have to be mean to other people but she was awesome to us even though she was feeling bad... Don’t be mean people!
Greens need some help
The history of the course is superb. The greens need some help but it is mid-winter even in Las Vegas. I really enjoyed the round with plaques on several tees showing what stars lived in the houses, what movies were shot there. The Bar afterwards with all the photos of stars, players, etc. is most impressive.
