Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

Very nice golf course, fairways are generous
Would recommend to play this course if you are in Primm or in the vincinity
Great Staff
Played the Lakes course on a great golf Now discount and it was sure worth the drive from Vegas. Friendly staff and a nice course made for a great day. Not crowded or rushed. Plenty of challenge and decent conditioning considering the time of year.
Just OK, They Need Course Rangers
I hate to be a wet blanket about this highly reviewed course, but it is just OK. It was in good shape, not great, and the layout is nice without being anything special. The value was right, but according to some of the reviews you'd think you are going to play Pebble Beach. The course is fine, the layout is fine, the staff is fine but you're not going to be blown away. But the big complaint is the lack of any course rangers. This is how you end up waiting needlessly on every tee box and in every fairway waiting for the group in front of you to finish plumb-bobbing their three footers like they are at Augusta on Sunday. Its how you end up behind groups shooting 100+ yet playing from the tips. So while my round wasn't overly long, it was much longer than it needed to be if they had just had a friendly guy on a cart moving folks along. I mentioned this after my round and the staffer there acknowledged the need and indicated many on the staff have asked management to implement this much needed service.
Excellent condition. Well run course. One of my favorites.
Course was in excellent condition. Provides good challenge for all levels with tee box options. Staff is always courteous and professional. I recommend this course.
Excellent Course
The course is about 40 miles south from downtown Las Vegas but very accessible. Course was in very good conditions, end of October 2012 and the temperature in the low 80. Would go back to play the Primm Desert Course.
Great Layout
Good greens
They could cut fairways shorter or wait to put carts on newly seeded fairways after they overseed.
Service in pro shop very good
Good but lacking some things to make it better
Played the Desert Course. GPS has course location at wrong address! Continue down highway one exit further south. Greeted at the bag drop off with excellent and informative service. Had breakfast before our round, food was very good, reasonably priced and pleasant service. Course has an interesting and challenging layout, some elevation changes, target golf in a desert landscape. Great tee box selections for all levels. No ball washers anywhere on course? No yardage markers in fairway, making it impossible for someone new to the course to establish their tee shot target. Sprinkler heads near the greens are marked with centre, front and back yardages. Tee boxes and fairways needed mowing, far too long. Fairway grass is poor in beginning holes with grass seed in lines and bald strips in between. Lots of bunkers, with good quality sand but maintenance around edges was poor. Green's had some brown spotting, slow in speed and very soft. Finishing holes were our favorites with great layouts. After our round we went into the lounge for a drink but were completely ignored by two servers, the same one's we had for breakfast?! We eventually walked out as never acknowledged or served. In summary, they need to maintain their course better as it has great potential ..... and weed out a couple of unacceptable staff.
Good layout
The staff were friendly, and the course has a great layout, but the conditions were poor. And most disappointing, there wasn't any mention of this online or at the course...we found out the hard way.
Course at end of overseeding
The Desert course was at the end of the over seeding period and was cart path only the day I played. But it was to my advantage, since I never saw another player in front of me the entire round.
There was quite a bit of rough terrain needing more time to fill in, but it looked great and played just a little less great, with just a few times necessary to move the ball from its landing spot to a patch of grass. The weather was perfect.
Worth taking a look.
Course was in decent condition but fairways were being worked on. Water, bunkers, high rough outside the fairways make it challenging enough for your average recreational golfer. Staff was friendly. Great deal if you play at twilight.
Lakes not as nice as Desert
Played late Sept after overseed so conditions not great and cart path only. I feel the Desert Course, which I played most recently last spring, is a better track than the Lakes, but both are very good designs. I almost always like Fazio and these courses do not disappoint.
Nice course
Signed up to play Desert course. It was closed. Out in the middle of no where a drive from Vegas. Would play again.
Great a Desert Course
The course was in very good condition for a desert course. The Staff was nice, the starter was a great friendly guy. The one thing I would make better was the service on the turn. The were 3 ladies behind the bar and it still took 6-7 minutes to get a dog and some drinks. There were only about 10 guys in the bar area.
Several holes on this course will tempt you to go for it.
This course had just finished overseeding so it was cart path only which made for a little longer playing time. Enjoyed playing this course and will play it again in the future.
Awesome. One of my favorites.
I strongly recommend both courses. Great experience. Tough, but fair. Good test of golf. Staff is nice and very accomodating. I will go every time I am in the area. Would love to play both in one day with lunch in between.
must play if in the area
A jewel in the desert-beautiful design in unusual area-condition of course for 10 months is excellent-suffers august/sept because of hot weather-great place for a guy trip
Ok to play
I don't get it...They had the course closed for over two weeks for overseeding, but were unable to grow grass in that amount on time?
Always a great place to play
We played this course in August 2012. We were to play the day before but heavy rain closed the course- hard to believe. The crew had the course back in very good condition. We play this course every time we can when we come to vegas as it is always one of the best deals available if you have a rental car. Either course out here is well worth it and the costs are usually the best anywhere
Don't pass this one up!
Both courses are an excellent choice even though they are 35 minutes outside of Las Vegas - make the drive and you won't be sorry! Top notch in every aspect ......I can't believe these courses are always in perfect shape - winter or summer. Would recommend without hesitation.
best corse just outside las vegas
this was our 5th time playing primm valley and we just love it. staff is so nice always freindly. love the resort style treatment.
