About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6855 yards
Slope 135
Rating 73.8

The Brigantine/Clipper Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property for one of the more challenging tests on Hilton Head. Brigantine/Clipper has a rating of 73.5, with a slope of 135 from the championship tees.

Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. This George Cobb design requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

Hoping for better

Fairways were poor and a few greens were also. Interesting layout but slow pace of play.

Nice Layout - Slow Play - Mediocre Shape

I enjoyed the layout of the course and a good amount of water and hazards to avoid did make it interesting to play.

The pace of play on this day at least was very slow (approximately 4:45 minutes) which brought on some frustration.

The greens were in decent shape though and rolled true. Several huge gators on the course which took my mind off of standing around on the tee and fairways waiting to hit.

Fair value

Fairways need some growing in -- expected in mid-March. Greens were very good. Bunkers good use a bit of sand. I'd play it again at the right price.

Slightly underwhelming

I was hoping for more. Nice track. Greens in good shape. Fairways, not so much. Most courses here are public. This really felt like a public course. Staff was more interested in getting you through the gauntlet than making sure you enjoyed your round.

Dry. Dry. Dry.

Dormant Bermuda fairways, dryest I've seen so far on the island. Lots of roll but often hard to find a decent fairway lie.

Greens excellent however, fast and true roll.

Nice design

The course has a nice design with many doglegs and well trapped greens

The spring conditions have the fairways with very dry conditions and limited growth of green grass

The greens held shots well and were consistently smooth for putting

Shipyard HHI is a great track

First of all Shipyard has one of the best staff on HHI. Unfortunately, the pace of play was very slow, 4:45. However this is a very busy time on HHI with winter golf trips happening, as usual. The course is not in great shape right now as things are just starting to grow on HHI. The greens are very good despite the early season. Today we felt like we were watching the grass grow in lieu of playing golf. Is not normal. Shipyard is a great network of 3, 9 hole courses and are all great and fun to play.

Good but SLOW

Good But Slow. We had to walk off on #17 after 5 hours so we didn't miss our dinner reservation. I've heard the same story from friends who have played there

If they can solve this pace problem I would. Go back.
