About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6855 yards
Slope 135
Rating 73.8

The Brigantine/Clipper Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property for one of the more challenging tests on Hilton Head. Brigantine/Clipper has a rating of 73.5, with a slope of 135 from the championship tees.

Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. This George Cobb design requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

One of the best

Third time here, and it's definitely one of those courses that's better if you've been there before. Some of the angles are tricky, a few deceptive views/distances/carries, but I'm nit-picking here...it's a very nice track.

A little disorganized at the start when there were some communication problems between the starter's crew resulting in us being checked-in, but not noted as having done so on the starter's list.

But, a minor problem, they got us out very quickly.

Only gripe might be that it's a little expensive in comparison to some of the other 'top shelf' courses on HHI (Golden Bear @ Indigo Run for ex. is better value)

Excellent condition all round, tees, fairways, greens all well manicured

Staff has our thanks

The course is typical for resorts - excellent conditions coupled with unmemorable holes. Pace of play was fine, and the cost on golf pass acceptable. The staff we interacted with were more than accommodating. I was playing terribly and decided to quit after 9 holes. I spoke with the starter about scheduling a last minute lesson. The teaching pro was on the putting green and had to go home , but after asking me a few questions made a suggestion that proved worthwhile. The starter gave me a very large bucket of balls, and I returned to the driving range. The starter even came over and watched me hit some right before going home. Afterwards, I had to kill 1.5 hrs since my wife was on a conference call at the club restaurant. The new starter suggested I play the 9, which I did. When I joined my wife, the bartender apparently helped with finding a quiet place for my wife's call. All this at no extra cost. Staff has and deserves our thanks for being so accommodating.

Slow play

Played the front 9 in 1 hour 45 minutes. Back nine with 5 2 somes in front of us, it took 1 hour and 25 minutes to play 4 holes. I quit and drove in as I saw in front of me Tharp. 4 some was holding everything up as there were 3 holes open in front of them. We literally had 5 2 somes on a hole and one on the next tee box. I play at a club in Wisconsin and if you don’t finish in 4 hours with 4 golfers you are considered very slow and might get a warning.

Good course but better value on the island.

Course was in excellent shape and the staff was solid. A little pricey considering other comparable courses on the island at half the price.

Could use yardage markers

Good value for a round with my teenage son and his friend. Course was in good shape overall. Some of the bunkers could use some attention. There are no yardage markers except for 100, 150, and 200. That’s it. We played on a weekday afternoon and three of us finished in 3 1/2 hours. Staff was very friendly. Would recommend to others just bring your own range finder.

Shipyard Clipper/Galleon

Course is in great shape, greens are rolling true, fairways are well maintained. Course is open with sone water hazards, but not too difficult. Got on right away, played the round in 3:30, not a lot of people around. Very nice.
