Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Horrible experience
Played Blackhawk this weekend and had a horrible experience. Teed off 20 minutes after our tee time due to lack of working carts. They allowed an 8 some to tee off and play together, the Marshall claimed “my cart doesn’t have enough juice left to make sure they don’t play together”. Was behind them the entire front nine, called twice about breaking them up, they didn’t care. Cart died on hole 8, was told it would be an hour before we could bring you another, when I asked what we’re supposed to do, the pro shop staff said “better get walking”. Course conditions were horrible, greens are not puttable. Avoid this course.
Goat Track
Course is just in dreadful conditions. Greens have multiple types of grass with huge lumps of crab grass throughout. Multiple ones have complete bare dirt on them. Fairways are just as bad. Hole number 2 was closed and two other par 4’s had temporary tees and playing as par 3’s. This wasn’t disclosed when the tee time was booked.
Greens need a lot of work.
Nice course layout, but the conditions of a lot of the greens were horrible. The course layout is great but they need to do a better job at maintaining the course.
As bad as it gets
Course is terrible. Literal rock patches in the fairways. Might as well be hitting off of the moon. Bunkers are just grass spots now. Greens might as well be the bunker. No real maintenance is done on this course other than mowing. Really hoping they at least do a little updating before it just gets shut down completely.
Run away.
Course is in terrible shape. Greens. Awful. Fairways awful. Bunkers. Nope. Tee boxes. Nope. Unless you can play this course for 10 dollars or less it is not worth it. Pro shop is the perfect indication of the rest of the course. Carpet old dirty and ‘em needs to be replaced. No water on the course. Bathroom floors haven’t been mopped in god knows how long. No pride taken in anything about this place. Has the feel of a place that is about to close down.
Do Not Play
The course is in terrible condition. Fairway are covered in weeds, dirt, literally unkept.
Greens are horrible. Covered in sand, big patches of grass missing.
Carts are falling apart.
This course isn’t even worth $10 per round.
Solid for the price
If you’re a beginner to intermediate player this can be an OK place to get some practice in. I like the course, but like a lot of places around area the greens are either in poor condition or just OK.
Nice staff and good pace of play. Good place if paying for a low price hot deal
Blackhawk Down
Two stars is the highest I can rate this course. Greens were horrible, grass, weeds and sand. Farways look good but hard as a rock, good luck getting under the ball on a down hill lie. Incredibly overpriced for the conditions of the course. If they would put 10% effort in care of the course would greatly improve its conditions.
Going Down Hill
I played this course 2 years ago for a charity event and it was alright then. Little to no maintenance has been done since that time to try to maintain or better this course. The layout is good and could be worth playing if there was any effort to keep it up. The clubhouse is a ghost town, the carts feel like they could breakdown at any point. You have to wait on the first tee until they bring you a cart. There is not cart person on the course. The range balls might be the original balls the course opened up with. Set your expectations low, very low and you will be ok.
