Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Course review
Good golf course. I enjoyed it.
Third time I’ve played it.
Do not play this course
If there is not a tee time available within 100 miles from this course choose not to play golf that day. This place produces food revenue, but from course conditions to simple things like no water in the course or bev cart, this place at every turn is a mess. People actually play here, so it is unclear why the course cannot be maintained as a golf course.
Bad got worse
Played this course five years ago. Still had a couple bunkers left and greens were being kept well. Fairways were not kept up with. But for the price you couldn’t complain.
This is no longer the case. No bunkers left on the course, fairways nonexistent, and greens have seen crabgrass taken over. $50 weekend morning rate is unacceptable for the conditions this course is in.
That being said, layout is still fantastic, good amount of elevation change and unique slopes on the greens. Mow the greens tight, put a couple bunkers back on the course, and this course returns to its potential.
Average Course for the Afternoon Price
I played an afternoon round of golf on a Sunday with a couple buddies (3 of us total). We've played here a few times recently. For $28/18 holes its not a bad deal. Of course the greens could use some work and the fairways are crispy but I'm also aware its been 100 degrees here since May. We are all also still learning and practicing so its a good course for beginners.
My only true issue here was the pace of play. The front 9 took almost 3 hours to complete. This was due to a few groups ahead of us being ridiculously slow. There was no marshall out and about to keep groups moving or requiring them to let others play through. It was an absolutely miserable front 9. Luckily when we got to the turn one group left and we were able to get ahead of another one. The back 9 was completed in about 90 minutes, a little faster than normal as we were trying to beat sunset.
We will be back but if the pace of play continues to be this bad we may have to reconsider.
Terrible but lots of potential
Good challenging course, wonderful staff, great location. Super unsatisfactory and unkempt course to the point where it should be closed down until it is fixed. Yes Texas is in a drought but even with the drought I’d have seen some courses make it manageable. Crab grass and dead patches all over the greens. Some pins looked like they were just thrown in the middle of the fairway. A lot of our puts would waiver off line after hitting a patch of crab grass on the green. Even in the fairway most of the grass was dead. Some great shots I had in the middle of the fairway had to be moved because the lie was on a dirt patch in the middle of the fairway or on rock solid grass with no give. Once again very well laid out course could be great, but my wife and I paid 72$ for both of us and had to move our balls in the fairway more often than not to find a good spot on the fairway after our tee shot. Defiantly should close for a few weeks to a month until they can re sod the course or close indefinitely until they can water the course more. Could be a 3.5 star course maybe 4 but since the course is so poorly kept I wouldn’t even give it a star
The course was nearly unplayable. Needs TLC badly.
Greens are in really really rough shape. Sand, different types of grass, cut really high, dead areas. Had an eagle putt through sand, bermuda grass, and weeds and made a three putt. Bout quit the round.
Goat Track
I’ve golfed in over 30 states and by far Blackhawk is the worst conditioned and ugliest golf course I’ve ever played. I feel really sorry for those homeowners that have to stare at the eyesore every day. That mess is sure not helping their property values that’s for sure. Whoever owns this golf course, do yourself and everyone else a favor. Either spend some money and maintain it. Or, walk away. You should be embarrassed. Have some pride. C’mon man!!!
Legal Willing Robbery
This place should be abolished and charged for criminal activities for charging anything over 10$. Layout is mediocre, the fairways look like they went through a war, the greens are atrocious, i dont know if it’s fair to even call them greens considering 90% are filled with weeds and dry patches. The course didn’t have water anywhere so bring your own if you want to pay to be miserable. If you’re gonna play such a morbid course you might as well make the drive to lago vista and get some good views while you try to putt over the sahara desert. You can hit a ball square and right on the green and it will hit a uneven patch resembling a meteor strike and kick 20 yards the opposite direction. The only way I would come back is if they paid me to play it. 1/10
Blackhawk Golf Club
Great place to go and practice your game if you are needing somewhere to play. Very friendly staff. Thank you for a good place to get some hacks in.
