Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Great practice
The course is challenging enough for a great practice round and the pace give you the necessary room
Nice course
This is a nice course, not as wooded as others, but tricky water Hazzards for the challenge junkies
Great course for the price
Very good greens, fairways need some filling in, bunkers definitely need sand but the layout is challenging making up for the other minor issues. I definitely recommend it, especially for the price..
Gratuity
You should train your staff not to ask for a tip when you order a hotdog. I always tip but when she says would you like to leave me gratuity, it really makes me not want to.
Greens Good but layout not real challenging
First time in a long time I have played this course. Greens were in good shape , the course is not tough at all. For the money a little over priced. $44 on a holiday
Both fun and disappointing
Haven't played this course for over 20 years. Revisited with a discount deal. It's a classic, straightforward design that is being neglected. It hasn't rained in a week and the bunkers were full of water, mud and unconditioned. Fairways had patches of hard clay. Saint Augustine grass taking over in some places. Just needs some TLC and it will be fine. A great course for hitting your driver. Greens were good. But who knows what they'll be like next time, given the condition of other things. Sad.
Course has been better
Cheap rounds after 4 p.m. makes this course a fun one to play. However, the past two times I've played within the past month, we've experienced pools of water instead of sand traps. I didn't expect the sand traps to be looking great the first time because it rained hard very recently, but the second time I went it rained 5 days earlier. The fairways are covered with concrete-hard dirt patches that make your ball skip an extra 20 yards or bounce off at weird angles. The greens were fantastic which made it all worth it.
Things to improve:
- Fairways
- Sand traps
- Operational beer cart?
- Power steering in the golf carts?
Pay attention to details
SInce it had rained the day before, the course was in decent shape. My beef lies in the golf carts. We played at 3:22 and the first cart we got, was dying by the 6th hole. We swapped it out at the turn and that cart did not make it to the 10th tee. When I checked the battery, all terminals were severely corroded so it would not take nor hold a charge. I had to walk back the cart area and get another. My third card was charged well but the area to put my phone and other items was full of cigarette butts. Spend some time to train your teenage cart attendants to take care of the batteries (especially since they cast over $700) and clean the carts. It will lead to happy golfers that like to tip.
Fix the dirt patches in fairways
Have not played here in a number if years because last time everything was dried out and had huge cracks running thru fairways. Although it is better now - the greens and tee boxes were in pretty good shape - the fairways still need a lot of work. Had many areas that were dirt patches. Throw down some soil and seed and get this fixed.

Rrrrough! Such bad shape. 1 star. Way to high of a price. Shameful to charge that amount for such a pile.
Very consistent greens!
This course was really great for the money. Very few golfers when we went on a Sunday. The fairways weren't great, but I'll take that any day over bad greens. These, though not the fastest, were very true! The bunkers could use some work for sure, but I'll take the drop! Great track for $13 on a Sunday!!
low cost
its decent for the low low price of $15.
all sand traps are water hazards.
we didnt have problems with our cart, but i saw one person on the course with a dead one.
fairways and greens were in decent shape.
bathroom in the clubhouse smelled like week old urine.
We were double booked
There was a two man group set for the same tee time we had to be squeezed in. The group behind us had a similar issue. For paying a convenience fee and reserving the tee time the day before with the established availability, it wasn’t quite available or convenient. And whoa yo the guy who used the app and books he’ll end up paying a little more than other group members. Not likely to book through golf now again.
Blackhawk is playable
Blackhawk has always had the reputation of being an inferior course due to it's condition. The condition is still an issue but not like it used to be. The fairways are still the worst in Texas but are playable and adds to the difficulty of the course and forget about the horrible bunkers which, if not going to be maintained properly, should just be filled in. The exception to the old views of Blackhawk are their greens. I would put them up today against most of the courses in the area as the best greens in town.
Fun place to hit balls and affordable but if nice fairways are what you desire, BH is not the place for you.
