Del Monte™ Golf Course
About
Opened in 1897, Del Monte™ Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering, hilly layout that has challenged golfers for more than a century.
It was the original host of the California State Amateur-still played on Del Monte's narrow, tree-lined fairways and small,well-protected greens-and continues to serve as one of the three courses on which the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational is played.
Adjacent to Del Monte™ Golf Course, the Del Monte Pavilion offers an inviting outdoor setting for any special event. Whether you are hosting a corporate outing or a tournament awards ceremony, all events are impeccably catered by the Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Del Monte
Great warm up course if playing some of the harder courses in the area. Greens can be tricky but fair. Pretty flat course but overall a nice course in good condition. We love to play this one to get ready for Spyglass or Poppy Hills. You want to feel relatively good about your game either on the front end or before you head home. This course will help.
Very nice coarse. Well laid out, greens were in excellent condition. Bunkers were in great shape.
All the staff were very friendly.
Will definitely go back
Good warmup to Pebble Beach
The course was in good condition, the pace of play was good until we got on the back nine. The staff was was very friendly, I would go back and play again !
Another alternative to high priced golf
A good test of golf, Del Monte was a decent test at a decent price. Caught a $50 hot deal on a Sunday afternoon. Bunkers were in great shape. Greens small but reasonably quick. Looks and plays like a typical muni. Nothing particularly memorable about the course but nothing poor to note either. Would not pay the normal $100 price tag , but for $50 it was a good deal.
Del Monte - Losing its Luster.
I played Del Monte many, many times when I was a Dukes Club member in the 80s and 90s and loved it. At the time I was between a 1.5 and 5 index and I appreciated the challenges this course brought to bear. It rewarded long drives and punished even slightly errant ones.
However, back then, Del Monte had a lot more trees and the course was more picturesque and more challenging. As the trees came down, the owners never bothered to plant more. They've had thirty years to do this! Now, where there once were beautiful, strategically-placed trees, there are stumps and trunks with few limbs remaining. I saw no staked trees but I confess I was not looking for them. On a number of holes, "Old Del" is looking like an uninteresting, muni course. There was barely a dusting of sand over hardpack dirt in some bunkers and a full complement of Pebble Beach-quality sand in others. The inconsistency was disappointing. The greens were punched so I can't speak to the quality of the putting surface (Del Monte's postage-stamp-sized greens were always great. I assume they still are still true and slick). The rough is full of broadleaf weeds and it was punitively deep and thick. There hasn't been significant rain for two weeks. They couldn't mow?
Frankly, at a Golf Now $51 dollar rate, for a 2:10 tee time (which we had), I would not go back....with or without the punched greens. It is a poor value compared to the courses I can and do play for less or the same amount.
Sad to see how Pebble Beach Company treats this historical track.
Foooooooooooore! Wow that was close!
Historical golf course, surrounded by homes. This course has holes bunched inside a small area. Walkable since the next tee is just yards from the last green. The key is too keep the ball in the fairway, better short than OB in someones yard. Greens are fast so keep it under the hole if you know where it is. Stay inside the cart as much you can so you dont get hit by wayward balls since it is very tight.
Punch greens
This course does not belong in the pebble beach catagory. Very disappointed with the punched greens. GolfNow should mention this. We would not have played this course. The greens were unplayable. We had to play them as two put max.
Overall there are a lot of nice courses in Monterey. We played four rounds this week. This course was a disappoint as the layout and conditions felt old.
Guys trip
Great course, we played in a Tuesday at 11:00 and had the course to ourselves. I do suggest that if you tend to spray your drives a little from time to time, don't use a yellow ball like I did, they blend in with the wild flowers too well. Happy hacking everyone!!
Del Monte Review
Beautiful golf course. Tight fairways throughout the course. Worth the money.
Great stay and play
Love staying at the Hyatt and playing this old school course, very challenging and beautiful views.
Why am I surprised
Never played this course before.... Super happy I did. Course condition was equal to a Spyglass or Spanish Bay. Great deal on golfnow.com made the one day trip from Santa Rosa all worth it. Love playing on the Monterey peninsula and this course gives you a less expensive option to the Pebbles and Spyglass of the world.
Good quality course
This is a challenging course, though fairly flat and too easy (with a slightly wild shot ) to end up on another fairway.
It is beautifully maintained with tough greens which are all different and interesting.
The pace was good and hopefully we will get to play again one day.
Not a typical PB owned course
Even though this is a Pebble Beach owned course.....don't set your expectations to high. Course overall is in great shape. Fairways green and tight. Greens fast and true. Weather was wet and rainy but course was fun. There are other courses in the area that offer much more for the same price tag.
Relaxing Course
Not the most challenging course, and not particularly long even from the tips, but overall a fun course. The greens had just been sanded, and it had rained earlier so the greens were very soft and receptive, but also led to them being a little bumpy in places. The fairways were in great shape, and the rough for the most part was lush and a beast! Seriously, was deep in most places. Bunkers were in great condition even with it having rained. Also on the good news was that I didn't see any "burned out" areas, especially on the par 3s. Rough was a little sparse in a few places, but not in a way that really impacted play. I'd probably play again, but only if I got a hot deal. Also, remember, there is only a putting green and a small chipping area, no range.
Long and Short
This course is challenging with long par 5s and elevated greens, making the short game more important. Putting surfaces are also challenging!
Greens are wicked!
Even though this is a Pebble Beach course, do not expect it to be anything like their other properties. It is not nearly as well kept as the others, but that doesn't mean it is not tough. The layout is old style (being built in the 1800's), but they have made the greens extremely challenging. Many are small greens and many are multi-tiered. They had just aerated the greens the day before we played, but it did not matter--they were true and fast! Make sure you've practiced your putting before coming here! Overall a good course, but there are better in Monterey County for less money.
!st time
Tough to find if u put in Course address on an I phone,,use the name of the course,,,
Fairways pretty brown in a lot of locations,,greens fast and difficult,,Stay below the hole
Nice course in Monterey
Played Del Monte for the first time on 6/18 and enjoyed the course. Conditions were good, greens were fast and true. A couple long holes, especially par 3s. The starter accommodated me getting off 30 minutes early, however, this was due to no warm-up area/driving range. Come prepared to putt and chip for a few minutes then start.
Friendly Staff
We had a great round at the Del Monte Golf Course. My husband and I were just a twosome and had no problem with the pace of play. The marshall came by and checked on us. The staff were very friendly and treated us well. We will be back again.
Good, reliable track
I play here on a regular basis, but have never wrote a review. Del Monte is the oldest course west of the Mississippi and used during the Pebble Beach ProAm. The staff is great--it's nothing fancy and the greens are very large by today's standards. With all that said, it's a very nice local course, pretty well maintained. The tee boxes are always in good shape, as are the greens. I will say this time, however, the "fairways" on the par 3s were a nasty, burnt mess. Since there are a few 200+yard par 3s, I did end up in the burnt, nasty mess. Don't know why they aren't maintaining these. This is a great value, low pressure and part of the pebble beach properties...worth playing while you're here.
