Great course
I am so glad the course is reopened after closed for several years!
Good.
Very good golf course! But only one condition, i can't find this course on my Garmin S60 .Please report to Garmin golf.thanks.
Good comeback from the dead
good to see a course open instead of close. Nice course and nice people. Tough back nine on the Mountain course.
Glad it's back
This course has always been fun to play. Its nice to have it back on the circuit. The course does not look as if it was ever shut down. Hole 18 is unique with having the new green as its now a par 3. Love the greens on every hole and I will for sure be playing this course a lot.
Yardage and markers need to be upgraded or installed instead of relying on visual. Some fairways seem to have temporary installed. Some weeds on the side of the fairways make it difficult to find the ball. Overall it was a good round.
Disappointed in course conditions
I played at the course on 9/13/20 with my foursome. I was very disappointed to see the clubhouse not complete and it open for business out of trailers. Found out it was because they couldn't start construction on the next phase unless the course opened anyways when the course was obviously not ready. I was also disturbed that we asked for an additional cart and were told we'd have to pay for it. Every other course offers that to people who are not in the same household because of covid. I was also very displeased with the condition of the course, cart paths muddy and unkept roughs with weeds and dirt everywhere. I'd be ok with that if they'd charge $40-$50 like all other courses in the area but they charge $75. I was expecting a brand new course with lush fairways etc. I got none of that but rather a course that looked like they just turned the sprinklers on and brought back all the old crab grass and weeds. Unless they adjust their price to a market standard in the area of $50 or get that course up to par, they won't have a lot of return clients. I will not be returning until one of the two has occurred. Just some advice from an avid area golfer who frequents every course in the Inland Empire area.
The artist formerly known as Moreno Valley Ranch...
Rode the Blues (6130/71.0/130) in 3H, 50M twilight, which was a story in and of itself. Overcast, breezy and around 95. $30 with cart weekday twilight through the course website.
Started off as a 5some. The starter matched me up going off early with a 4some rather than follow them as a single with a bunch of 4somes directly in front of them playing a skins game. Paired up with 4 nice guys, average age probably 65. I played the Blues, they played the whites... for 2 holes. On 3 tee, the best player of the four wanted to join me on the Blues. Okay golfer, but his average drive was maybe 200 yards counting roll. He could barely clear the lake on #3 from the Blue tees. On 4 tee, another joined the Blues, by 5 tee, three of the four were playing the Blues. The other two and the guy remaining on the whites would have had a better time playing Sr. tees. They lacked both length and consistency. We were averaging 15-20 minutes a hole, and when two of them were still beyond the 100 yard marker on #5 when I was looking over my par putt, enough was enough. It was time to break off with at least 2 holes vacant in front of us. I was making the 100 mile round trip to play 18 holes, not 12 or so. I played through a 2some and caught the last group of the skins game and played the last two holes with them, easily beating darkness.
Pete Dye design, the former Moreno Valley Ranch is a tough track. Not just a good layout, this is an excellent layout. The holes down in the valley are typical Dye with water, railroad ties, mounds etc. The holes on the hills are more straight forward holes where he had make tough golf holes w/o water and railroad ties. The layout ties together really well. One of my favorite Dye layouts because of the elevation changes and where roughly half the holes are NOT typical Dye. In other words, this is not overdone Dye.
Course conditions mixed, but very playable.
Bermuda tees, especially the par 3's are already getting chewed up. More thin than lush but good coverage.
Bermuda fairways had good coverage, semi lush and decent to play from. Not plush, I had several tight lies, especially on downhill shots.
Rough was a mixture of grasses. Mostly mowed down and your lie could range from sitting up to terrible in a small area.
Traps were not well maintained even considering COVID protocols. They definitely were not raked today.
Greens were excellent. Spongy and soft, which leads to alot of ball marks when people won't take the time to fix them. But once the ball marks were repaired, they putted smooth and medium fast. Loved the way these greens rolled!
Very courteous maintenance staff that stopped activities when golfers were close by more than once. Quick efficient check in, and the starter was doing what he could to keep things moving. Basic carts do not have GPS, which is a detriment on a hilly Dye layout. There were a bunch of people having lunch outdoors when I arrived. Nice putting green that was very comparable to the on course greens.
Nice to see 18 of the 27 holes of Moreno Valley Ranch come back from the dead and be reincarnated as Rancho del Sol. Definitely recommended.
Great Course
A real gem, very challenging course. great atmosphere
Great PD Layout
Great course design. Beautiful holes on the back.
The play was slow because of one group of beginners that thought they were the only ones out there. 2 plus open holes ahead.
Wake up. Kick them out. Don't let us suffer behind because your Marshalls have no courage.
The story of Two
So I’m sure I won’t be only one reviewing Ranch Del Sol without reminiscing about The Ranch (Original course name) and the 27 amazing holes, great practice facility/driving range, and awesome club house....we’ll the key word is reminiscing....Rancho Del Sol kept the valley course intact 100% from its original lay out, which is exactly how it’s referee “valley” pretty flat, some trouble, great distance from the tips to challenger your game...then, you head to Mountain course where it does a hard 90 degree turn and the challenge hots you in face. Challenging holes, breathtaking par 3 that was once named “Gary Players hole” but unfortunately then ending (hole 18) ends on a pretty easy down hill par 3(originally a short but challenging par 4) overall though, course in great shape and just like the course itself, the story of two....weekend fees at $65-$75 might leave you feeling slightly empty for the price your paying vs weekday prices $45-$55 which are much more accurate for this course. Missing chipping green and range. Great course but honestly not worth weekend rate given what other courses offer for same price. Great memories and will play again but only weekdays or until weekend prices drop.
Good soon to be great!!!!
So happy this course opened back up. Two totally different 9 s. The front is more of a park land course with houses surrounding but not in play. Greens are excellent!!!!! And then the back 9 rolls through the mountains with lots of elevation change. Super fun shots into the green. Staff was friendly and helpful. I’m time it will be even better. Will be back soon
Rancho Del Sol
nice course greens are starting to get a lil more firm. Fun course to play.
