Editor's Note: Course closed for businss in 2022.

This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.

Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.

There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Old Stand-By

Course conditions are in decline. Money talks. But we always enjoy Mesquite. Friendly staff, great starter.

Crazy windy!

Wind was howling for most of our round. Palm tree fronds were blowing off the trees. Made for very difficult play. We do enjoy this course and have played here many times.

Course review

Speed of the greens and in most part the shape was as good as anywhere. The course itself could use some TLC tee boxes and fairways.

Tired but cheap

The course and clubhouse were pretty tired. Looks like it has not been kept up for quite a while. The staff in the clubhouse (never did see a starter) and the couple I was paired with were both a pleasure.

Good value

$55 greens fee is good value for this aging course in Palm Springs. I’m very average golfer and my game isn’t suited to paying $100’s to play golf in the desert area.. I would play it again.

Enjoyed the experience and would recommend

I liked the course layout even from the back tees. Par 3s overall are long. Starter was very welcoming and staff working on the course were very respectful of players on the course while they did there work. Was a great start to my playing golf for my time in Palm Springs. I would recommend the course although there wasn’t much for food or drink on the 19th hole afterwards.

Mesquite was a nice layout with some challenging holes, including some very long par 3's. There are places where bridges are washed out, and some areas that are simply dirt and sand, but overall a good course. it did seem a bit pricey for the value.

Ok

The price was right for what you get. Average course with just a really strange setup. Shared cart paths with two or three holes right on top of each other. The pace of play was actually fine, different from other reviewers. They do not sell beer or liquor on the course, or in the clubhouse, which I have never seen before. Honestly, not a bad golf course, not a great one either.
