This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Great value in the desert
It is a great value for the money in Palm Springs. The staff is terrific, the course (and I usually play it 2-3 times when I am here in January-February) is being maintained again after several years of neglect, has a great design (three par 3's, three par 4's and three par 5's on the front nine) and has a great combination of easy and difficult holes. I will play it again while I am here in Palm Springs, at least two more times.

This is a average course
I played this course a few years ago, the conditions of the course have improved since then. For the price it it’s an ok course
Bunkers had no or few rakes. Tee boxes uneven. Lots of damage around the course from flood. Lacking maintenance in areas.

Worth going back...
Our first time playing here and we went through all 18 in 3 hours and 15 minutes, as a twosome. The pace was great.
We will be back, but having beers and/or a beverage cart with drinks and snacks would be GREAT.

Facilities
Nice course. But be warned no washrooms on the back 9 unless you stop at clubhouse. But they close at 330 so both times we golfed there no washrooms to use when finished our round. And washrooms on front 9 were very disgusting. Not understanding why they can’t remain open for people to stop for a drink etc when they are done
